Andrey Rublev has his eyes set on the French Open 2020 title. The young Russian has a great momentum as he is fresh off his first ATP 500 event win. On the other hand, his Round 1 opponent Sam Querrey, formerly ranked 11 is also looking to set his footing in the ATP tour after a string of first-round losses in 2020.

Andrey ‘The Giant-Killer’ is ready to dig his claws in the clay courts in Paris. Rublev, the 22-year-old defeated World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of German Open 2020. The Russian has already added 2 more titles on his mantle earlier this year and made to the quarter-finals of the U.S Open for a second time. 

32-year-old Querrey is known for his big serves and powerful shot-making skills. The American faced some disappointing 1st round defeats in Cincinnati and the U.S Open. He didn’t have much luck at the onset of the clay-court season when he lost to Pedro Portero in the 1st round of the Italian Open in straight sets.

Sam Querrey and Rublev are powerful ball-hitters who play each point with intensity and utter grit. This duo has played against each other on 3 occasions. Rublev leads the scoreboard with 2-1. 

Their last meeting was earlier this year in the round of 16 in Adelaide, where Rublev not only emerged victorious in the match but went on to win the tournament. The pair have never met each other on a clay court.

Rublev is a heavy favourite to go deep in the tournament and make it to the second week of the French Open 2020. The youngster is expected to win against the American, but some exhaustion carried from his recent German Open run might affect his stamina.

It will be interesting to see how Rublev deals with trying to overcome exhaustion and if Querrey takes advantage of that.
