French Open 2020 Draw: Federer, Kyrgios missing; while Top 10 Women in the entry list

On 2nd September, the official site of Roland Garros posted the entry list for Men’s Singles and Women’s singles. The men’s list saw world No.4 Roger Federer missing along with Australian Nick Kyrgios. On the other hand, all the top-ranked women are on the list including Ashleigh Barty and Serena Williams.
Closer Look at the Men’s list
The mens’ entry list has confirmed the list of participants. However the draw is yet to come out. The tournament will offer the winner a gigantic sum of money along with 2000 ranking points.
Big Names missing
The major missing is Roger Federer who already has 20 grand slam titles. The Swiss has been suffering from a knee injury and had earlier declared he would miss the season of 2020. Nick Kyrgos is missing as well. The Australian is utterly disappointed at the resumption of tour amidst the pandemic. He may miss the entire 2020 season.
Players to watch out for
Rafel Nadal is called the “King of Clay” as he has already won 12 French Open titles. Nadal also had 81 clay court wins streak from 2005–07. It is the longest on a single surface in the Open Era in men’s singles. He will leave no stones unturned chasing his 13th French Open title.
A player to watch out is World No.1 Novak Djokovic. Even though he will find it hard to switch from hard court to clay quick. Novak’s skills are not limited to one surface and he shall be a player to watch.
Dominic Thiem is a player to watch for too. He has not been able to defeat Rafa at Roland Garros. He lost to the former in 2018 and 2019 on French Clay. However he has been able to defeat Rafa on clay at various other events.
A closer look at the Women’s list
Women at the Rolland Garros will fetch herself a whopping 2000 points. The 2020 French Open will be the 124th edition of the French Open and will be held at Stade Roland Garros in Paris. It will also be the first year with a retractable roof on the courts after construction was completed on Court Phillipe Chatrier.
All top 10 women in the list
Ashleigh Barty will defend her title at the clay. On the other hand, Simona Halep who recently won Prague Open shall participate too.
Other top-seeded players who missed the US Open such as Elina Svitolina, Kiki Bertens, Bianca Andreescu and Belinda Bencic will take part and grace the event. Thus it will be phenomenal to see the top-ranked women on the French clay, some of them resuming tour after pandemic halted play.
Ashleigh, Serena and Simona will play tough
Serena Williams is out there breaking records. She is chasing her 24th slam at the US Open already. At the French clay too, she will try to be as dominant an ever.
Karolina Pliskova and Naomi Osaka are also players to watch out. They have been performing well at the US Open 2020 as well.
Players that will be absent
Women’s draw will be without Saisai Zheng, Lin Zhu, Yafan Wang, Anastasia Potapova, Samantha Stosur, Shuai Peng and Xiyu Wang.
Another major player missing will be the local favourite, Carla Suarez Navarro. She withdrew from the US Open, after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
