
Day 1 of the French Open 2020 had a long list of exciting matches. With an average temperature of 14 degrees Celcius, the women braved the cold to fight and reach round 2.
Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka, Coco Gauff were some winners on day one. Meanwhile, the seventh seed Johanna Konta, and a 7-time Grand slam winner Venus Williams crashed early in the slam.
Simona Halep wins birthday match
Simona Halep turned 29 as she stepped on the clay-court to play a grand slam match. While the temperature needed an extra layer of clothing, Halep wore a pink full sleeve top and black leggings. Halep won 10 straight games while beating Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-4, 6-0. Simona is through to Round 2 of French Open 2020 now.
Victoria Azarenka complaints of freezing at the court

The match between Victoria Azarenka and Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic was interrupted for a while. The rain halted the play which led to a delay. Meanwhile, Azarenka was upset to have been made to sit and wait.
“I don’t see a point of sitting on the court when it’s 8 degrees (Celsius),” she said. Ultimately Azarenka won in 61 minutes to dispatch Danka Kovinic, 6-1, 6-2.
Coco Gauff upsets Johanna Konta
The match between Coco Gauff and Johanna Konta was won by the teenager. The American won 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets against the ninth seed of the tournament.
Venus Williams, Kontaveit exit as Bouchard wins

Venus Williams was handed a defeat as she continued to struggle with her game. The 41-year-old is a 7-time grand slam champ but has been far away from her best tennis. She lost to Anna Karolina Schmiedlová 6-4, 6-4.
Annet Kontaveit held the 17th seed but lost in three sets. She battled hard against Carolina Garcia, but Garcia won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 causing an upset. After losing the opening set Kontaveit tried to fight back in Set 2. Finally, she bowed against Garcia in the last set.
