5th-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on his fellow Next Gen star Jaume Munar in a first-round contest at the French Open 2020. Tsitsipas has a lot to prove in this tournament and would try his very best to go as far as possible at Roland Garros.

Jaume Munar vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Preview

Jaume Munar

Talking about the performance leading to the tournament, Munar is going through a lean patch of form. The 23-year-old Spaniard did not even make it to the main draw at the Cincinnati Masters. The World No. 109 then, unfortunately, retired hurt in his first-round match against Dominic Thiem at the US Open. While Munar and Tsitsipas are of the same age and became professionals around the same time, Munar hasn’t been able to make his name as big as Tsitsipas in the tennis circuit.

Similarly, Tsitsipas after looking nervy since the Tour resumed, has finally regained some much-needed form. The 23-year old Greek after going down in the third round at the US Open to Borna Coric in a thriller lost meekly to Jannik Sinner in the Round of 32 at Rome Masters. However, the World No.6 has finally looked in his elements at the Hamburg Open, where he is due to play in the final against Andrey Rublev. A championship win in Hamburg will sky-rocket his confidence to another level before arriving at Roland Garros.

Prior to their meeting at the French Open, the two athletes have faced each other only once. It was a round-robin contest at the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2018 in Italy. Tsitsipas edged past Munar 4-3, 4-3, 3-4, 4-2 in a curtailed format in that match. So the Greek leads the head-to-head record 1-0.

Jaume Munar vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas

The encounter is expected to be a one-sided affair. Tsitsipas should not have much difficulty in getting past Munar. The only thing against the Greek is the fatigue factor as he hasn’t had even a single day rest between his Hamburg Open final and Round of 128 match at Roland Garros, but Tsitsipas should overcome it. As for Munar, the Spaniard will have to wait for next time to try to grab the headlines in the tennis world.

Match Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas defeats Jaume Munar comfortably in straight sets.
