Nadia Podoroska, ranked 131st in the world created a huge upset in the quarterfinals as she defeated the 3rd seed, Elina Svitolina in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday. With this victory, the Argentinian progresses into the semifinals of the French Open 2020 continuing her dream run in Paris. The 131st ranked Argentine was lethal on Tuesday dropping just 6 games against a good clay court player of Svitolina’s quality.

The Argentinian will now face the winner of the quarterfinal between Iga Świątek and Martina Trevisan in the semifinals of the French Open 2020. She will be looking to lay her hands on the French Open title with the top 3 seeds Halep, Pliskova and Svitolina all out from the draw.

Podoroska gets off to strong start in the 1st set

Nadia Podoroska dominated Svitolina for the entirety of the 1st set breaking her on 4 occasions in the 2nd,4th,6th and 8th games. She was also broken twice but held her serve in the remaining games to win the first set 6-2. Svitolina just managed to win 2 out of 15 points on her 1st serve which might have cost her the set.

Podoroska wins the 2nd set and match, leaving Svitolina searching for answers

The 2nd set witnessed poor serving by both players. There were a total of 7 breaks in the 2nd set. Svitolina had advantage midway through the set when she broke and was leading 4-3. However, the Argentinian came roaring back winning the next 3 games in a row and breaking Svitolina’s serve twice. She eventually won the set 6-4 and progressed into the semifinals, continuing her incredible run in Paris.
