Post a dramatic win against Sara Errani in her previous round, Kiki Bertens caused much less drama while making her way to round of 16. However, a major upset and disappointment ensued as Eugenie Bouchard, who looked pretty strong, made an exit. She lost her match to the teenager Iga Swiatek.

Simona Halep undefeated

Simona Halep won her match comfortably 6-1,6-0 against Amanda Anisimova. The match was expected to be a better clash but Halep dominated the match utterly. The young Anisimova had no chance to put any obstacles for Halep, as she lost the one sided match.

Post her match Simona Halep expressed her views comparing her performance against the same opponent from last year. ”I [was] more aggressive. I took the game in my hands. Last year I was very far from the court, and I played fairly short so she could play her game. When she has time and she has the ball in the right position, she is very, very dangerous and she plays great,” Halep said.
