The day 6 of the French Open 2020 witnessed the top seed Simona Halep in action. The Romanian won her match to reach the round of 16 of the French Open, further extending her unbeaten run since the tour recommenced. Also, Elina Svitolina, the third seed won her match in straight sets against 27th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Post a dramatic win against Sara Errani in her previous round, Kiki Bertens caused much less drama while making her way to round of 16. However, a major upset and disappointment ensued as Eugenie Bouchard, who looked pretty strong, made an exit. She lost her match to the teenager Iga Swiatek.
Simona Halep undefeated
Simona Halep won her match comfortably 6-1,6-0 against Amanda Anisimova. The match was expected to be a better clash but Halep dominated the match utterly. The young Anisimova had no chance to put any obstacles for Halep, as she lost the one sided match.
Post her match Simona Halep expressed her views comparing her performance against the same opponent from last year. ”I [was] more aggressive. I took the game in my hands. Last year I was very far from the court, and I played fairly short so she could play her game. When she has time and she has the ball in the right position, she is very, very dangerous and she plays great,” Halep said.
Elona Svitolina wins comfortably
Elina Svitolina has earned the third seed at the Roland Garros now. She has played to maintain her stature as she defeated the 27th seed in straight sets. Svitolina beat Ekaterina Alexandrov 6-4,7-5. The round of 16 match for Svitolina is against Caroline Garcia. Svitolina managed to seal her match against Alexandrov in two sets avoiding a final set after winning set number two with a break.
Kiki Bertens moves to Round of 16
Kiki Bertens beat Katerina Siniakova 6-2 6-2 moving into the French Open round of 16. The fourth seed at the French Open 2020, Bertens made her round 4 seem much easier. She seemed to have undergone much pain in her previous match, but looked sharp on the court against Siniakova.
Eugenie Bouchard out of French Open
Eugenie Bouchard lost the match but displayed some phenomenal strokes. Her backhand downline helped her to dominate the match, yet was not enough to help her win the set. Iga Swiatek fired 20 winners along with mere 7 unforced errors to take the first set over Bouchard. It was a blistering opening set from the teenager who sealed the match-winning the following.
