Emma Raducanu has been handed a very difficult second-round assignment at the 2025 French Open as she will face the four-time champion, Iga Swiatek. The British star has begun to gain her feet on clay this season but she’s yet to master the court like Swiatek, who has already earned over 100 wins on the red dirt.
It will be their fifth career meeting and second of this year. Defending champion Swiatek is seeking redemption at the Roland Garros this season. She has not won a single title since claiming the French Open last year. She’s currently ranked No.5 and a loss will potentially see her drop out of the top 5 in the WTA.

Emma Raducanu vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Preview
Raducanu began the season poorly after losing three consecutive matches. However, since the Miami Open, she has begun to play good tennis. After reaching the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 for the first time in her career in Miami, she then won three consecutive matches in Rome to also reach the fourth round of the Italian Open.
She accepted a wildcard to the Strasbourg Open and claimed just one win against Daria Kasatkina before Danielle Collins defeated her. At the French Open, she needed two hours and 44 minutes to beat Wang Xinyu 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round and claim her first win at the tournament in two years.

On the other hand, Iga Swiatek has been playing well but not to her standards. In fact, the Polish star has racked up 28 match wins the season but has failed to win a title. She’s yet to reach a final this year and has slipped to No.5 in the WTA rankings following her failure to defend her titles this season.
On clay, she has been poor. Apart from reaching the semi-finals of the Madrid Open, she has failed to win as she usually does on her favorite court. In Rome, she was stunned by Danielle Collins in the third round. However, at the French Open, it took her just an hour and 24 minutes to beat Rebecca Sramkova 6-3, 6-3.
Emma Raducanu vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Prediction
Iga Swiatek hasn’t been at her best this season having a 28-9 record, while Raducanu has just a 13-10 win-loss record this campaign. The pair has faced each other four times on the court, with Swiatek leading 4-0 in their head-to-head record without dropping a set. In fact, the last time they met, she defeated the British star 6-1, 6-0 at the Australian Open in January.

Raducanu revealed after win against Wang Xinyu that she struggled with illness leading up to their match. She has also been troubled by a back problem at the Strasbourg Open. Apart from that, Swiatek is miles away from the level of Swiatek on any surface. The British star is still yet to beat a top 10 player on clay and, despite her growing form, has not been able to defeat top players.
Swiatek surely has the upper hand ahead of the clash, and the vast experience of the Court Philippe-Chatrier will help her against the British No.2. But she also has to be worried about the threat Raducanu poses.
Match prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
