Coco Gauff vs. Lois Boisson: Match Preview
Lois Boisson entered the French Open as a No. 361 ranked player, making her Grand Slam debut as a wild card entrant. En route to reaching the last four, she went past Elise Mertens, Anhelina Kalinina, and Elsa Jacquemot (another wild card), before knocking out last year’s US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula in the fourth round and Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals.

The first set against Andreeva was extended to the tie-breaker, but after clinching the tight set, the Russian ace could win just three games in the second set. Andreeva was chasing her first Grand Slam title and had reached the semifinals of the clay-court Major last year (her best Grand Slam performance).
Boisson’s win over Pegula made her the first woman to progress to the quarterfinals in her Grand Slam main draw debut since Carla Suarez Navarro in 2008. She has now become the lowest-ranked woman to make it to the quarterfinals and semifinals of the French Open in the last 40 years. Thanks to her performance, she has now reached a career-high ranking of 65 in the live rankings. She has also become France’s No.1 player.
Before this French Open, Boisson had played three qualifying rounds from 2021 to 2023 in the tournament. She hasn’t yet appeared as a qualifier in other Grand Slam events.
Gauff, on the other hand, has reached the finals of two WTA 1000 events on clay this season. Before arriving in Paris, she lost to Jasmine Paolini in the Italian Open final, and to World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the Madrid Open final.
The 21-year-old hasn’t yet lifted a title since winning the 2024 WTA Finals. En route to scheduling the semifinal clash with Boisson, the American youngster came from a set down to beat her compatriot and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the quarterfinals.
Coco Gauff vs. Lois Boisson: Match Prediction
Boisson has one WTA 125k and six ITF titles under her belt. Gauff is chasing her 10th singles title. The 22-year-old is playing her third tournament of the season, after the Open de Rouen, WTA 125K event in Saint-Malo. She didn’t make deep runs in these two events.

Gauff will be meeting Boisson for the first time in her career. Even though Boisson has knocked out three seeded players, including two top 10 ones, Gauff still will enter the match as the favorite to win.
She has won just one title on clay, (the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Open) but has made it to four finals on the surface, including at the 2022 French Open, which she lost to three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek. Gauff also won the doubles last year here with Katerina Siniakova by beating Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani.
Match prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets.
