Elina Svitolina came from behind to beat Jasmine Paolini and reach her fifth career Roland Garros quarter-finals. The World No.14 has been incredible on clay this season, having reached the quarter-finals of all the tournaments she has played on the red dirt this season. She will face a tough test against the former World No.1 Iga Swiatek.

Swiatek is seeking to win her first Grand Slam in a year at the Roland Garros. The 24-year-old had struggled before arriving in Paris but has shown her resilience at the French Open, particularly against Elena Rybakina.

Elina Svitolina vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Preview

Elina Svitolina began her clay season with a title victory at the Open de Rouen. She then reached the semifinals of the Madrid Open and then the quarter-finals of the Italian Open. At the Roland Garros, she opened her account with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Turkish Zeynep Sonmez and then claimed a straight set win over Anna Bondar in the second round.

Bernarda Pera was a tricky opponent in the third round, which the Ukrainian had to overcome 7-6(4), 7-6(5). Without dropping a set prior, she faced 2024 runner-up Jasmine Paolini in fourth. On the other hand, Iga Swiatek enjoyed a smooth sailing in her first three matches. She defeated Rebecca Sramkova in the first round and followed it up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over British star Emma Raducanu. It was in the third round that Jacqueline Cristian caused her troubles, but Swiatek was able to win the match 6-2, 7-5.

However, in the fourth round, she faced No.12 seed and a resurgent Elena Rybakina on Sunday (June 1). The former World No.1 trailed the Kazakhstan star 1-6, 0-2 in 45 minutes, but after a toilet break, she mounted a mind-blowing comeback to win the tie 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 in two hours and 32 minutes to record her sixth consecutive Roland Garros quarter-finals.

Elina Svitolina vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Prediction

Svitolina has been one of the most consistent players this clay season but facing Swiatek is going to be her biggest test. But, after Swiatek hit 27 unforced errors in the first set against Elena Rybakina, Svitolina can likely cause problems for the Polish star. Swiatek leads 3-1 in their head-to-head record.

Swiatek defeated the Ukrainian in their lone clay-court meeting at the 2021 Italian Open but she lost to Svitolina at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship in three sets. The pair play almost the same style of tennis. It is worth noting that Svitolina has some of the best footwork and shot selection in WTA.

Swiatek is great at remaining deep in her baseline while trying to dictate the game. However, Swiatek’s victory over Rybakina is a big boost for her. It will also give her a belief that she can beat top players under immense pressure. Svitolina might make her suffer for the win but she simply has what it takes to beat the World No.14 easily.

Match Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
