In-form Lorenzo Musetti will face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the Roland Garros for a place in the championship match. Lorenzo Musetti vs. Carlos Alcaraz: Match Preview

Lorenzo Musetti has been one of the standout players on clay this season but he’s yet to win a title on the red dirt. He has been to the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome but always failed to get to the finishing line. At the French Open, he continued his excellent display winning his two opening matches before dropping a set against Mariano Navone in the third round.

The Italian star had to battle past No.10 seed Holger Rune in the fourth round in four sets to reach the quarter-finals. Against Frances Tiafoe in the last eight, he was lucky he wasn’t defaulted for kicking a ball at a lineswoman during the contest. However, he prevailed in 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz has been in sublime form since the start of the clay season. He secured the Monte Carlo Masters and Rome title and only lost the Barcelona Open in the final against Rune. He has weathered a difficult path to get to the semi-final of the Roland Garros.

He defeated Fabian Marozsan, Damir Dzumhur, and Ben Shelton in four sets to reach the last eight of the tournament. During his quarter-final clash against Tommy Paul, the 22-year-old displayed pure intensity and focus, beating the American star in every aspect of the game before completing a 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 win in an hour and 34 minutes.

Lorenzo Musetti vs. Carlos Alcaraz: Match Prediction

Lorenzo Musetti has been one of the few players who have given top players a tough time on the court. The Italian star has been fearless on the red dirt and uses a variety of shots during a long rally to confuse his opponents. But he has never gotten the formula to beat Carlos Alcaraz on clay this season. In fact, the Spaniard has beaten him twice on the clay-court this year.

Also, Alcaraz leads Musetti by a big margin of 5-1 in their head-to-head record meetings on tour. The Spaniard lost the first match of their rivalry at the 2022 Hamburg Open final but has since dominated him on tour. He recently defeated the Italian star at the Monte Carlo Masters final and in the semi-final of the Italian Open.

Alcaraz looks very dominant at the French Open and looks favorite to defend the title. The Spaniard has had moments where he gave his opponents a bit of space to claw back into the match, but he has always found a way to win. Also, he knows how to easily adapt to matches and opponents’ style of play.

Match Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in four sets.
