Kostyuk won the Madrid Open and then decided to skip the Italian Open ahead of her preparation for the Roland Garros. She has been unbeatable on clay this season. Elina Svitolina began the year by winning the Auckland Classic and then reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open. She produced one of the best performances of the season at the Dubai Tennis Championships, finishing as runner-up after losing to Jessica Pegula in the final. A good run at the Indian Wells and Miami Open kept her place in the top 10.
She reached the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open and continued with her form at the Italian Open, where she claimed her second title of the season. The 31-year-old secured a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(3) win against Anna Bondár and then crushed Tamara Korpatsch and Kaitlin Quevedo in straight sets. In the fourth round, came from a set down to beat Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 to reach her sixth French Open quarter-finals.

Marta Kostyuk, on the other hand, opened her 2026 campaign with a brilliant run at the Brisbane International, but couldn’t claim the title as Aryna Sabalenka defeated her in the final. After that, she managed just two wins on the court and struggled with injury. She got to full fitness at the Rouen Open in April, where she won her first title of the season.
The Ukrainian star continued with her brilliant display at the Madrid Open, dropping just one set throughout the tournament and beating Mirra Andreeva in straight sets to win the championship. At Roland Garros, she defeated Oksana Selekhmeteva in straight sets and then came from a set down to defeat Katie Volynets 6(4)-7, 6-3, 6-3. She beat Viktorija Golubic 6-4, 6-3 before claiming a thumping victory over Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals.
