The French Open is into its most crucial week. Every player remaining in the draw now has their sight on the title. One of the highly anticipated clashes of this week is between the Spanish sensation Rafael Jodar and World No.3 Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, a defining era clash, with both players having a ten-year age gap.

Zverev is the highest-ranked player remaining in the draw, which ultimately makes him the favorite to win the clash and eventually the title. It is believed that the tournament might be his last chance to finally win a Grand Slam, but will he for the first time in his career be able to overcome the pressure of being the favorite as Jodar is absolutely the underdog in this clash.

Rafael Jodar vs. Alexander Zverev: Match Preview

Rafael Jodar didn’t begin the season in the way he had anticipated, but he won his opening round match at the Australian Open before exiting in the second round. It was at the Miami Open that he found his game rhythm, reaching the third round for the first time in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

He continued with the form at the Marrakech Open, claiming his first ATP title, and then reached the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open. The 19-year-old got to the quarter-finals of the Madrid and Italian Open. At the Roland Garros, he defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic, then overcame James Duckworth in four sets before beating Alex Michelsen 7-6(2), 6(5)-7, 4-6, 6;3, 6-3. In the fourth, he battled back from two sets down to beat Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-2 in their all-Spanish battle.

On the other hand, Alexander Zverev is yet to win a title this season, but he has reached multiple semi-finals and quarter-finals. He has been largely consistent this season compared to last, but has not been able to crown it with a trophy. He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open before losing to Carlos Alcaraz and then fell to Jannik Sinner in the Madrid Open final two months ago.

At the Italian Open, he was crashed out in the fourth round after losing to Luciano Darderi in the fourth round. But he bounced back from that at the French Open, beating Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 before crushing Tomas Machac 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. He then put up a fight against Quentin Haley, winning 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. The No.2 seed defeated Jesper De Jong 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-1 in the fourth round.

Rafael Jodar vs. Alexander Zverev: Match Prediction

Rafael Jodar’s rise over the past year has been audacious. He was ranked outside the World Top 700 this time last season and has since rapidly established himself as one of the most compelling young forces in the men’s circuit. With a title, and two consecutive ATP Masters 1000 quarter-finals finishes, he is seeded 27th at Roland Garros.

He has had to dig deep in his last two matches to reach the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros, but he’s never been this confident on the court. As it is said in sports, momentum breeds confidence, Jodar will try to defeat Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals of the French Open. But Zverev has the experience to fend off the Spaniard’s challenge.

Zverev just needs three wins to win the French Open and will aim to go all in for it. Will Jodar give Zverev plenty of problems at the Court Philippe-Chatrier? That’s expected, but the German star can handle them appropriately. This will be their first singles meeting on tour as they only crossed paths in the doubles category at the Mexico Open.

Match Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in five sets.
