Novak Djokovic‘s run at Roland Garros was hampered when he slipped on the courts multiple times during his fourth-round match against Francisco Cerundolo. Before that match, the Serb clashed with Lorenzo Musetti in the third round till about 3 a.m.

Rain was the major reason behind Roland Garros’ late-night matches. As incessant rain suspended a match, it was later added to the Philippe-Chatrier court before the Djokovic-Musetti match and so, instead of starting around 8 p.m., Djokovic and Musetti started playing not before 10:30 p.m.

When Roland Garros director Amelie Mauresmo was asked about the scheduling of Djokovic’s matches, she preferred not to respond to the question.

You know what? I'm not even going to answer this question. Because, as I said, it's always easy afterward, when you know how the day is going to go, perfectly. Any day, actually. Whether it's raining…rain, oh, does it rain at this time? Okay, so… it doesn't work like that.

In that Djokovic-Musetti match, it was pushed to the decider with the former emerging victorious with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-7(6-8), 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. After this match, the 37-year-old played another five-setter against Cerundolo but ended up winning before withdrawing himself from the quarterfinals.

Amelie Mauresmo explains why the court was not swept frequently when Novak Djokovic asked to

Novak Djokovic complained to the umpire about sweeping the Philippe-Chatrier court on a frequent basis as he was slipping on it. But his request was turned down, and as mentioned before, slipping there ended up exacerbating the knee injury he was dealing with even before the French Open (though it was not troubling him at that time). When Amelie Mauresmo was asked about it, she said it was up to the supervisor to decide that.

I think it depends on my understanding, it does not only depend on the player asking. Maybe it's also the umpire's decision. Also, I think the Grand Slam supervisor who was on the court on that day also made the decision not to.

The 37-year-old underwent knee surgery during which his torn meniscus was removed from his knee. He is racing against time to recover before the Wimbledon Championships.

The only big title Djokovic has not yet won is the Olympic gold medal, which he aims to win in the Paris Olympics. The tennis events of the Olympics start on July 27.
