The recent Paris Olympics has seen several moments from the event go viral on social media over the past few days. One of the most infamous among these was Anthony Ammirati’s unfortunate yet hilarious fail at the Pole Vaulting Qualification event, who failed to proceed to the next round due to his genitals getting in the way.
The French Olympic Contingent recently gave an interview with Athle, where Ammirati spoke about his performance at the Paris Olympics. He was very disappointed, and gutted after what had happened. He wished that he had worked more on his jumping during training to fine-tune the smaller details.
The 21-year-old revealed that this was the first time he was heading into a competition without facing any stress. Furthermore, he thought that the conditions for performing were also great. Ammirati and the other French contingent were highly familiar with the conditions that they had to perform at, as the Olympic Games this year was on their home ground.
The conditions were good. It’s the first time I’ve started a competition without any stress.

Anthony Ammirati called himself a total outsider as these were his first Olympic Games. His only goal heading into the event was to join the rest of the contenders in the finals, something he was unfortunately unable to do.
The Frenchman had already cleared two heights and was looking to clear the 5.70m mark for his third height. He was about to relinquish his pole and seemingly about to clear the height. However, a part of his genitals caught the bar on his way down. This sent the bar crashing down onto the ground and ending all hopes for the finals and a medal for Ammirati.
French Pole Vaulter Thibaut Collet reveals being ashamed of his performance at the Paris Olympics
Ammirati’s Fellow Frenchman and Pole Vaulter, Thibaut Collet, was also unable to qualify for the finals of the event. He finished 11th in the group and missed out on reaching the finals by a single position. The 25-year-old also revealed feeling highly ashamed of his performance. He claimed that the last few weeks of his preparation were great, and he had worked really hard.

Collet was one of the favorites heading into the Paris Olympics. The 25-year-old recently became the third-best French pole vaulter ever with a height of 5.95m only two months ago. He felt that he would not be affected by the pressure of heading into the Games with a third-world ranking. However, this was not the case, as performing at the Olympics was a different ball game altogether.
My performance was catastrophic. My warm-up wasn’t good, but that happens. So I thought it would get better once the competition started. I fought the whole way through. There are a lot of tears that will flow when I’m with my loved ones.

Thibaut Collet agreed with his fellow French Pole vaulter, saying that the conditions were perfect. However, he himself was the problem. The 25-year-old apologized to his family and his loved ones for disappointing them and promised to return stronger than ever.
