‘Frustrated’ Adam Schefter is tired of Aaron Rodgers’ indecisiveness about NFL future

Adam Schefter feels that veteran free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers should make up his mind between the Steelers or the Giants

Aaron Rodgers has been strongly linked with the Pittsburgh Steelers as their next quarterback. However, the 41-year-old shot caller remains quiet about his future, infuriating ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Several quarterback-needy teams moved quickly to shop for a new QB in the last few days. Geno Smith left the Seahawks to sign with the Raiders while Sam Darnold filled Smith’s vacated spot in Seattle. The Colts signed Daniel Jones to challenge Anthony Richardson, the Browns and the Eagles swapped Dorian Thompson Robinson for Kenny Pickett, and finally the 49ers gave Mac Jones a 2-year deal to back up/compete with Brock Purdy.

Despite the slew of QB moves, Aaron Rodgers remains without a new team. ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently went on a rant against the 4x NFL MVP for not closing out his deal even though two teams are waiting on him to finalize an answer.

To me, it shouldn’t be that hard. The Steelers want you. The Giants want you. We’re seeing players across the league make decisions. It shouldn’t be that hard—it’s either you want to play or you don’t. You want to play in Pittsburgh or you don’t. You want to play in New York or you don’t.

Adam Schefter said on ESPN Milwaukee

The Steelers are thought to be ahead of the Giants because they have an established and experienced core of players compared to the Giants. The prospect of throwing to George Pickens and Metcalf and a defense led by TJ Watt and Cameron Heyward is ready to fight for the division as a team that reached the playoffs last season.

Schefter’s frustration is similar to that of both owners, who, if they want to have closure, can move to the next guy before the next football year begins.

Aaron Rodgers delaying his decision is making life harder for other quarterbacks

Rodgers isn’t the only free agent quarterback that teams can go for, but he is the best FA a team looking for a bridge QB can ask for.  Right behind in that order is Russell Wilson, who spent the last year with the Steelers.

Wilson and Justin Fields shared time in Pittsburgh, but Fields signed with the Jets and is no longer in the picture. Even though the Steelers were 6-5 in Wilson’s eleven starts as the QB 1, they have less faith in him compared to Rodgers, who is four years older than him.

If the Steelers miss out on Rodgers, then they will speak with Wilson, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

I think they are in murky territory if they don’t wind up landing Rodgers… I like Russ as a player; he’s accomplished a lot, but I’m not sure that relationship is in the best place and has been in the best place.

Albert Breer said while appearing on the Rich Eisen Show recently.

Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Favre share their perspectives

However, former players such as 2x Super Bowl-winning QB Ben Roethlisberger want Wilson over Rodgers in Pittsburgh next season. During a segment of his show, The Pat McAfee Show, Big Ben said,

“I think that you gotta really consider Russ [Russell Wilson]. Everyone knows what Russ can do with the deep ball, or the moon ball, or the rainbow ball, or whatever you want to call it now… You’ve got two deep threats. You’re telling me that you throw that ball up to DK [Metcalf] and GP [George Pickens] and they’re not going to want to go get that go ball?”

On the other hand, former NFL QB and Rodgers’ predecessor at Green Bay and New York, Brett Favre, wants him to become the new quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings.

By all means, sign with them. They got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position. They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. If you get the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Of course, you gotta play the Packers then.

Brett Favre said on The Will Cain Show

The Vikings have arguably the best wide receiver in the league, Justin Jefferson, and an offensive line that ranked 9th in PFF‘s best O-line in 2024. The Vikings also added defensive tackle Jonathan Allen (3 years/$60M), defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (2 years/$30 million), guard Will Fries (5 years/$88M), center Ryan Kelly (2 years/$18M), and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (2 years/$15M) from free agency to strengthen their team.
