USMNT star Christian Pulisic responded to his viral ‘Donald Trump dance’ celebration, clarifying that it was not political, but was meant to be funny. His celebration generated a lot of controversy, as he performed it after scoring a goal against Jamaica.
Christian Pulisic scored in a 4-2 win over Jamaica in a CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final match. The USMNT advanced to the semi-finals of the competition, winning 5-2 on aggregate. Pulisic’s viral celebration following his 13th minute opener is what garnered controversy.
The 26-year-old broke into a dance celebration, with his steps resembling those of US President-elect Donald Trump’s signature dance move. Trump performed the dance while on campaign rallies ahead of the 2024 elections.
With many fans linking Pulisic’s celebration to a political move endorsing Trump, the ex-Chelsea star, however, brushed aside those claims. Speaking to reporters, he exclaimed that he had seen other athletes doing the ‘Trump dance’.
He added that he intended to do it for enjoyment and fun. Despite agreeing that the moves were inspired by Trump, Pulisic claimed that there were no political motives attached to it. He was referring to NFL star Nick Bosa and UFC champion Jon Jones performing the viral ‘Trump dance’.

Christian Pulisic etches a new record with the USMNT
USMNT skipper Christian Pulisic has set a new record after scoring a goal in a 4-2 CONCACAF Nations League win over Jamaica. The 26-year-old’s strike helped his team make it past the quarterfinals of the competition, securing a spot in the final four to be held at the SoFi stadium in March 2025.
With his goal against Jamaica, the Pennsylvania-born forward has now become the fastest player in the USMNT history to reach 50 goal contributions. Moreover, he moved to the fifth-place on the all-time USMNT top goal-scorers tally with 31 goals in 75 matches. He overtook former Chicago Fire and USMNT forward Brian McBride in the process.
