Premier League leaders Liverpool claimed a narrow victory over La Liga side Girona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. The Reds claimed a solitary goal in the second half courtesy of Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian put his side in front from the penalty area in the 63rd minute. However, manager Arne Slot was in no mood to rejoice as he slammed his players in the post-match press conference.
Speaking after the game, Slot showed that he wasn’t pleased with the way his side played. He pointed out how the club conceded several chances against the Spaniards. However, the Dutchman also praised Alisson Becker for claiming a clean sheet in his first game back from injury.

I’m far from pleased with the performance tonight. We lost the ball and we weren’t aggressive enough. We hardly had any control on the game.

Slot also took shots at his players by suggesting that they wanted to see ‘how fit Alisson was’ by letting in so many shots.
Mohamed Salah secures important win for Liverpool
Days after rumors claiming that Mohamed Salah has been offered a new contract by Liverpool, the Egyptian showed just why he ‘needs’ to stay put. On a night in which Liverpool struggled to create many chances, it was Salah himself who scored the winning goal.

After Donny van De Beek conceded a penalty in the 59th minute, a brief VAR check confirmed the same. Salah’s confident penalty to his left sent opposition keeper Paulo Gazzaniga the wrong way.

With the goal on Tuesday, Salah now has 50 Champions League goals in his career. Despite the goal, Salah missed out on the Player Of The Match award to Alisson Becker, who made a series of important saves to keep his side in the game.
Liverpool’s next game in the UCL is against Lille in late January. With the win, the Reds sit on an eight-point lead at the top, above Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa.
As things stand, Salah is currently on two UCL goals, with 4 assists as well. As per reports, a two-year deal has been offered to the 32-year-old, with the deal under consideration.
