Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was not pleased with the umpire’s decision over a controversial DRS call, during the team’s heated IPL encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gill got involved in a spat with the on-field umpire, despite SRH’s Abhishek Sharma urging him to calm down.
GT moved a step closer to securing a 2025 IPL play-offs spot, following a spectacular home victory over SRH. Batting first, GT posted a massive total of 224 runs, owing to some good batting by Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. The visitors were unable to chase down the target, as they fell short by a margin of 38 runs. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj scalped two wickets each for the home side.
Abhishek Sharma was the only bright spot in the weak SRH batting unit against GT, as he tried to fight back with an individual innings of 74 runs off 41 balls, hitting four boundaries and six sixes. However, the 24-year-old was involved in a controversial DRS call by the umpire, in the 14th of SRH’s innings, leaving Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill visibly furious.

In the fourth ball of the 14th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Sharma moved across the crease to face a perfect yorker. However, the ball hit his pads. Despite appeals for a LBW, umpire Kannur Swaroopanand deemed it as not out. GT skipper Shubman Gill immediately opted to take a review. The ball tracking showed that the ball had hit the wickets, but the impact rested upon the umpire’s call.

Going with the on-field decision, umpires Swaroopanand and Virender Sharma declared Abhishek Sharma not out. However, GT skipper Shubman Gill was not convinced with the DRS review. In a video that subsequently went viral on social media, Gill was seen arguing with the umpires in an aggressive manner, something quite unusual of the 25-year-old, who is known for his calm demeanour.
Gill had an animated argument with the umpires, and tried several times to charge towards them. SRH’s Abhishek Sharma had to intervene to calm down Shubman Gill. It later came to light that the 25-year-old was angry because of a certain glitch with ball tracking that had inaccurately shown where the ball had pitched. Gill was still left unsatisfied with the umpires’ explanation, which led to coach Ashish Nehra temporarily pulling him back into the dugout, to prevent further escalation.
Why does Shubman Gill keep confronting umpires so often?

I haven’t seen that level of aggression from most other skippers.
It's almost like he’s trying to replicate Virat Kohli’s fire, but it doesn't feel natural.

Shubman Gill was able to laugh off the incident with the on-field umpires, as he playfully kicked Abhishek Sharma’s legs, moments later. The 25-year-old, speaking at the post-match press conference, noted that his emotions had taken the better of him, during the match.
‘Furious’ Shubman Gill confronts fourth official over contentious dismissal during GT vs. SRH
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill engaged in a heated interaction with the fourth umpire, after being controversially dismissed during the team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gill was deemed run out, after he fell short of his crease in the 14th over of GT’s innings.

The 25-year-old looked in good touch, as he slammed his fifth half-century of the season. However, chaos unfolded when Shubman Gill was deemed run out. Replays left the third umpire confused, as it seemed uncertain whether the stumps had been disturbed by the ball or by Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves. Despite the uncertainty, the third umpire ruled his decision in favor of SRH, leaving Gill frustrated.

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill had a heated discussion with the fourth official near the pitch after his controversial dismissal. Moreover, this isn’t the first time SRH wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves have caused controversy, as the same happened in a previous match against MI.
