Travis Kelce probably didn’t plan to spend the start of his 13th NFL season yelling at his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Jawaan Taylor. The situation nearly turned dicey.
The Chiefs’ defense forced the Los Angeles Chargers offense into a three-and-out on their opening drive of the second half. It presented the Chiefs with a great chance to restore parity in the fixture.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the snap and dashed 11 yards to secure the first down. It was a crucial gain until the referee’s flag nullified the play. Jawaan Taylor, who played right tackle, was flagged for holding.
A short moment after his first mistake, Taylor was adjudged to a false start, which canceled out WR JuJu Smith-Schuster’s 7-yard catch.
Cameras inside the Corinthians Stadium in São Paulo, Brazil, caught Travis Kelce yelling at Taylor. The 35-year-old even head-butted the seventh-year offensive lineman in the helmet.

Taylor became one of the highest-paid O-linemen in football after signing a four-year $80 million extension in 2023.
Travis Kelce had an eventful outing against the Chargers
Early on, a Kelce friendly fire took out a Chiefs receiver. On third and six on their 28-yard line, Mahomes aimed an incomplete pass at Hollywood Brown.

However, in the commotion, Kelce ran into second-year wideout Xavier Worthy. The impact sent Worthy straight to the medical tent, and he did not return to the game.
Kelce even took a right hook from a Chargers defender. The referees caught the defender red-handed and imposed a personal foul, awarding the Chiefs an automatic first down.
Scored a touchdown
Kelce made a name for himself as a pass-catching tight end. He became the fastest TE to reach 14,000 yards, and last year he surpassed Tony Gonzalez by scoring his 77th touchdown.
On Friday, Kelce added one more to his tally. Three minutes into the fourth quarter, Mahomes snapped the ball on first and ten to dump the ball to an open Kelce, who ran 30 yards to score a touchdown. It reduced the deficit to just one point.

It wasn’t enough to save the Chiefs from suffering a 27-21 defeat. This was only Andy Reid’s third loss since taking over as head coach of KC.
Chiefs drop to 0-1 in a 27-21 loss to the Chargers, just the third opening-game loss since Andy Reid became the team's head coach in 2013.

It’s a long season for the Chiefs
Last year’s finalists were favorites to start the season with a win against their divisional rivals. History was on their side. They completed the double over the Chargers and were on a four-game win streak.
The streak finally ended in Brazil. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 300+ yards and 3 touchdowns while adding 32 additional yards on the ground. Mahomes started slow but caught momentum as the game progressed. Mahomes logged 24 completions from 39 attempts for 258 yards and one touchdown, along with 6 carries for 57 yards and one score.
Wide receiver Hollywood Brown caught 10 passes for 99 yards, with veteran Smith-Schuster contributing five for 55.
It took the Chiefs until week nine to lose a game in 2024, which they have already equaled in 2025. They still have 16 more games to get back on the Super Bowl trail, which starts by facing the defending world champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, at Arrowhead Stadium.
