Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes appeared to have ‘shushed’ Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, after scoring past him in the penalty shootout. Despite this, the Red Devils won the penalty round in their pre-season friendly against the Gunners.
Arsenal and Manchester United faced each other in a pre-season friendly match at the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles. The Gunners registered a 2-1 win, through goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli. Despite Arsenal’s win at the end of ninety minutes, the two teams participated in a pre-arranged penalty shootout. Moreover, United won the penalty shootout 4-3, with Jadon Sancho scoring the winning penalty.
Gabriel Magalhaes, who was one of the Arsenal players to step up and take a spot-kick, got involved in a brief altercation with Andre Onana. The goalkeeper’s unusual tactics during the penalty shootout attracted a lot of attention. The Cameroonian attempted to distract Gabriel by pointing in the wrong direction. However, the Brazilian defender converted the spot-kick, making Onana dive the other way. After scoring, he approached the goalkeeper and angrily gestured for him to be quiet.

Onana’s antics, however, proved effective as Manchester United emerged victorious, with Kai Havertz‘s shot being saved by the Cameroonian. Both teams are continuing their pre-season tours, with Arsenal set to face Liverpool and United taking on Real Betis next.
Gabriel Magalhaes shares message to Arsenal fans following pre-season win over Manchester United
Arsenal beat Manchester United in the second game of their pre-season tour in the USA, while also welcoming more players back to the first team. Among them was defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who played a crucial role in the victory.
Despite missing his usual defensive partner, William Saliba, Gabriel showed sharpness in his limited playing time. He also expressed gratitude to Arsenal fans in Los Angeles and across the USA for their support upon his return. The Brazilian made a substitute appearance for Jurrien Timber, marking his first game in two months.
Furthermore, Arsenal’s recent signing of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori will increase competition in defense. Calafiori, Magalhaes, Timber, and Jakub Kiwior will compete for a starting role alongside Saliba.
