French tennis star Gael Monfils revealed that he will not push tennis on his daughter. The 37-year-old spoke about future prospects for his child, and when he was asked if she would play tennis like her mom and dad, Monfils said he wouldn’t push it.

As tennis runs in the Monfils family, with Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils excelling at the highest level, it was an obvious question for the Frenchman. Monfils was asked if he would like to see his daughter play tennis, and he instantly replied, “Please not.”

The 37-year-old then elaborated on his answer. Monfils explained that it would be totally up to her to decide if she wanted to play the sport. He talked about the added baggage she would carry if she decided to pursue a career in this sport because her father and mother did well enough.

Please not. But I tell everybody, it's fine. The thing is, it is a little bit different for our daughter. If she wants to play, she will play. I won't push it. Because she will have a lot of pressure from the beginning which is tough because she is the daughter of Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils.

While Monfils is still among the top entertainers for his athleticism and out-of-box shots, Svitolina is keeping the emerging stars on the edge of their seats with her performance. The tennis couple will also be seen in action during the Madrid Open.

Both Monfils and Svitolina are competing at the Masters tournament and will be hoping to make the most of it. While Monfils opens his campaign against Luciano Darderi, Svitolina has been given a bye in the first round. She might face Sara Sorribes Tormo or Bernarda Pera in her first match.
