Former Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza has praised Carlos Alcaraz for his performance on tour since turning professional. The Spaniard has been one of the best players of his generation, having won six Grand Slams in the past four seasons on tour, more than any player since 2022.

Alcaraz has fulfilled the dreams of Rafael Nadal, who is the greatest Spanish player ever to grace the court. Nadal brought joy and pride to Spain with his performance in Grand Slams and the Davis Cup. He won 22 major titles during his professional career, while helping Spain win four Davis Cup titles and claiming one singles Olympic gold medal.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz has yet to reach the 39-year-old’s achievement on tour, but there are promising signs that he might even beat Nadal’s feat. This season alone, he won eight titles, including two Grand Slams. He’s currently 22, and if he wins at least seven titles each year for the next ten years, he would be very close to reaching Nadal’s 96 career title tally.

Alcaraz has enjoyed a good pre-season tour in the United States of America, where he featured at A Racquet at The Rock exhibition event in New Jersey before heading to Florida to face Joao Fonseca at the Miami Invitational. Alcaraz lost to Frances Tiafoe in New Jersey but defeated Fonseca.

He’s gearing up for the 2026 season, with his first tournament expected to be the Australian Open in January. During an interview with Spanish outlet Teledeporte, Muguruza revealed that Alcaraz’s rapid rise to the top of the men’s game has stunned her, adding that he’s a good role model for the younger generation of players:

But what can I say, such talent, so young, so much self-assurance… How can someone be so good, so young, and so fast? It’s a mystery to me, on top of that smile and naturalness he has. He’s a unique being. Who would have thought that after Rafa Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz would come? We are all amazed, I am very happy to have a role model for the youth like Alcaraz, it couldn’t be better, it’s ideal.

However, Alcaraz’s dominance in the men’s circuit has been limited due to the fact that his rival, Jannik Sinner, is also pushing for more titles in his career. The Italian star won four of his last five tournaments last year and even defeated Alcaraz at the ATP Finals in Turin. Fans will be hoping that Alcaraz and Sinner’s rivalry continues next year.

Juan Carlos Ferrero reflects on Carlos Alcaraz’s 2025 season

Carlos Alcaraz’s 2025 season took a drastic turnaround at the Monte Carlo Masters in April. Before the tournament, he had struggled to be consistent, winning just one title in five tournaments, including the Australian Open. But after winning at Monte Carlo, Alcaraz went on to claim six other titles.

He had arrived at the clay-court event after a poor run at the Miami Open. During an interview with Puntodebreak, Juan Carlos Ferrero explained that Alcaraz had lost a bit of confidence after failing to win any title during the Sunshine Doubles. He noted that he was heavily affected by his losses in March this year:

Carlos had come from winning in Rotterdam, where he had done very well, but in Indian Wells and Miami, he lost a bit of confidence. It was a challenging moment, not because of the defeat but how it happened. He was affected by the tournament and upon his return, we had a talk. We often converse with him, but when you see him more irritable or vulnerable at a specific moment of the season, we talk more from the psychological and friendship aspect rather than as a coach.

Alcaraz won two Grand Slams this season, making it four major titles in two years. The only Slam missing in his trophy cabinet is the Australian Open. Should he win the Melbourne Grand Slam, he will complete his Career Grand Slam and will become the youngest player ever to do that in the Open Era.
