It has not been a week, and Kansas City Chiefs fans are still in disbelief that their team is out of the playoffs, and Gardner Minshew would lead them into the final three games with Patrick Mahomes done for the season.
Even though the writing was already on the wall regarding their postseason hopes, losing Mahomes to an ACL tear was a major shock, as that comes along with several question marks about the team’s future.
Most notably, what Travis Kelce would do. Not only was he not at his dominating best, but with his superstar QB out for almost a year, many wonder if he will either call it quits after this campaign or try for one last chance at leaving the game with another ring on his finger.
He reiterated that he would give his all as his commitment to the franchise is unwavering. Then, Gardner Minshew exited their game against the lowly Tennessee Titans early.
As third string QB Chris Oladokun continued to struggle, journalists pressed the Chiefs for answers about their primary backup’s injury.
Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew likely suffered a torn ACL in his left knee against the Titans today, sources tell Chiefs Digest. He will undergo an MRI to confirm. Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew suffering torn left ACLs in back-to-back games is crazy bad luck.

Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew suffering torn left ACLs in back-to-back games is crazy bad luck.
The game was already something the entire Chiefs universe wanted to forget, as they could get nothing going against one of the league’s worst teams. But for Minshew to now join Mahomes on the injury list was as if someone poured salt on their wounds.
Fans question if Chiefs’ success earned a curse
The Kansas City Chiefs were the most successful team in the past decade. Three Super Bowl wins and two losses, combined with their domination in the AFC are proof of that success.
Then to lose Patrick Mahomes to an ACL tear, exit the playoffs, and then lose backup QB Gardner Minshew, who could have still made something out of their three games, was too much for football fans to ignore.
They believe this is some sort of curse or a major turn of luck, as the franchise may now finish in the worst way possible. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Unlike Patrick Mahomes, Gardner Minshew will be worried about his future. He is only signed to a 1-year deal, which means he will have to work his way back from injury, then prove to prospective teams that he is healthy, and then hope he gets a contract.
Since ACL tear recoveries take at least 9 months, he would likely miss most of the opening month of next season, if not more. The Chiefs, though, can show a gesture of goodwill and sign him for another year if he shows he is recovering well.
Gardner Minshew’s injury leaves Chiefs with QB headache
When Patrick Mahomes went down for the season, the Kansas City Chiefs knew they still had two backups in place for the remaining three games. That QB room now has just one person remaining.

That means they will have to find someone capable who is available, which is again a tough ask at this stage of the season. The options available also might not entice them.
Since the trade deadline is long gone, the franchise may not have any other choice but to ask one of its existing players to take over at quarterback.
One of them could be Travis Kelce, who can throw a pretty ball or two. Even one of his other tight end teammates could have a go, as the franchise desperately needs someone with some experience if they cannot find a QB on the open market.
