Following heartbreak in the final of a second consecutive European championship, England boss Gareth Southgate has called time on his tenure with The Three Lions. As mentioned earlier, a loss in the final of the Euros in Germany proved to be the final straw for the Englishman who was already battling with hate and abuse on social media.
Despite the ‘underwhelming’ label slapped over his team, the numbers suggest that he is the most ‘successful’ manager in the last 60 years. After missing out on yet another title against Spain, Southgate felt the need to step down from position. After almost eight years in charge, Southgate leaves with a 63% win rate, 3 final appearances and a grand total of zero trophies.
Following his departure, the English FA have posted a surprising job posting on the internet looking for a potential replacement. With a closing date on August 2nd, posts mentioning the same have gone viral on social media, with most of the reactions failing to take the same seriously.
The FA have put emphasis on ‘leading and developing the team to a major international tournament’ – something that Gareth Southgate failed to achieve.
Fans react to English FA inviting job applications for the position of manager
The English FA are in need of a new manager. Their most recent attempt to land a replacement has been the subject of laughter on social media, with fans sharing their hilarious takes on the same. A fan commented that the FA will have to sort through thousands of applications from ‘armchair’ managers whose only experience managing a football game would be on FIFA or Football Manager.
Another stated that he’d be interested in taking the job if it allows to be played on ‘easy mode’ and take breaks in between. Several football fans were confident that they’d do a better job than Southgate at the helm and that a team like England doesn’t even need a manager. Unserious fans asked for an email or a link through which they could submit their CVs to the FA.
A fan stated that he earned his side promotion to the Premier League after starting out in the fourth division in England. While the names of Pep Guardiola and Graham Potter have been thrown in the air, there has been no real talk of who is set to take the reins for The Three Lions.
