The Three Lions go into the upcoming Euros as strong favorites to bring home the title. After the heartbreaking loss in the final to Italy in the previous edition, England will be on a mission to right their wrongs in Germany. As Gareth Southagte‘s men completed their final warm-up match prior to the Euros, fans were left in distress as they lost 1-0 to Iceland at Wembley.

The tournament ‘favorites’ couldn’t quite cut it when it came to giving fans a shimmer of hope as they go into the tournament. Including the disappointing result against Iceland, England have only managed to win a single game in their last five outings. Iceland who are ranked 72nd gave a final blow to The Three Lions thanks to a an early goal from Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson.

Pressure has been mounting on England boss Gareth Southgate to deliver a trophy for England, and as he enters what is most likely his last tournament in charge, the stakes could not be higher.

While certain omissions from the preliminary squad have raised questions against Southgate, the country have a big problem to sort out before their first game against Serbia on the 17th of June.

Fans react to England’s disappointing result against Iceland

England have failed to convince their supporters in the run-up to the 2024 Euros in Germany. Despite winning their last international friendly 3-0 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, they ended their warm-up with a 1-0 loss to Iceland. Many pointed their fingers at Southgate for the team having just one shot on target in almost a hundred minutes played.

Another chipped in to state that England will not get past the round of 16 with a manager like Southgate. Fans spammed video clips of Iceland cutting through the English defensive line and playing attacking football with ease. An angry fan expressed his frustration as he complained about Southgate being in charge of this golden generation.

One couldn’t even wait for the tournament to be over before Southgate could be sacked. A supporter opined that losing at Wembley days prior to the Euros to a weaker opponent was one of the worst outcomes possible for a team. Many added that the loss was a much needed ‘reality check’ for them while others imagined how James Madison would be feeling about the result. The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was shockingly left out of the squad for the tournament.
