This New York Jets season everything hinges on how Aaron Rodgers plays the quarterback position. On one hand, he has to slowly come out of the rust he has gathered over the past season sitting on the sidelines.

On the other hand, his teammates on offense need to be on the same page as himself. In tonight’s game against the New England Patriots, Garrett Wilson seemed to have struggled with it.

In the second quarter, the Jets were to snap the ball at the Patriots 27-yard-line. On a 3rd and 10, all they needed was another first down to try for a touchdown with 14 seconds remaining. Rodgers threw it to his left to Garrett Wilson on a designed play.

The only problem with that throw was that it was a bit too short. Short enough that they could not try for that touchdown to extend their lead. This led the young receiver to shake his head while walking along the sideline.

This was the second instance of frustration for Wilson as it seems his 40-year-old quarterback seems to be still trying to shake off rust. On a previous play, Wilson split two defensive backs to be wide open. In fact, he could have gained at least another 10 yards had he caught the ball in that zone. Instead, he was seen jumping in frustration while still on the route.

A closer look at that play suggests Rodgers was spooked by three defenders closing down on him. Seeing that develop he tried to scramble and tried to throw it to tight end Jeremy Ruckert, but that too was short. It seems, the 4-time league MVP is not just struggling with rust, but the ACL injury he suffered a year earlier in this stadium has him doubting some throws.

Garrett Wilson and Aaron Rodgers were all smiles later on

Later on in the third quarter, Aaron Rodgers ensured Garrett Wilson did not end his day frustrated. With 6 minutes left and the Jets on a 1st and goal, Wilson shimmied his way free from his defender and ran an out route. Rodgers saw this develop and threw a perfect pass to his young wideout.

Wilson caught it just outside the end zone, then in a split second moved his arms back into the end zone with the ball in his hands. That broke the plane and was confirmed a touchdown. This happens to be the first touchdown the former Ohio State Buckeye received from the future Hall of Famer.

The result of this was an embrace near their benches suggesting that all is well between the two.

Wilson might have to give his veteran a pass for the earlier misses. After all, this is only his third game after a season of sitting out. If they improve from this, the New York Jets will have quite a season.
