The Houston Texans’ defense is one to worry about whenever any team goes up against them. For the stuttering New York Jets offense, it could be a nightmare. But on Thursday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson decided they had to take over.
With ten minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Jets were still three points behind the Texans. What made it more difficult for them was that they were starting at the Texans’ 26-yard line on a 3rd and 19 down. This meant it was most likely going to be a pass.
But with the firepower available on the Jets receiving squad, the Texans had to go single coverage on each of them. Garrett Wilson in particular, utilized his quickness and agility to ensure his defender stayed in front of him as they waltzed into the end zone. Rodgers, seeing this, threw a high-arching lob.
Usually, defenders can try and bat this down. But with Wilson using his hands to throw rookie Texans corner Kamari Lassiter off balance. Then, as he turned around to check the ball, he leaped into the air to grab it with one hand.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.

But that was not the only highlight of that play. How he adjusted his left leg to first tap down onto the field, then control the rebound, and drop his knee into the turf before sliding out of the end zone was epic. It showed his elite awareness and control of his arms and legs.
Referees and fans initially thought he went out of bounds. But after reviewing it was converted to a touchdown as it was clear that Garrett Wilson’s left shin came down before the white line. This grab evoked memories of a certain Odell Beckham Jr. catch.

That touchdown shed any doubts that the Jets’ offense cannot be great. But it was not the only touchdown for Garrett Wilson. In fact, the first touchdown for the Jets on the night also came via another one-handed grab. But this time, it was not as dramatic as the one mentioned above.
But even then, it was a show of how elite both Rodgers and his young wideout are when they click. After finishing the first half scoreless, the New York Jets came out spreading the ball out to the receivers and running backs. Now that it spread the field, it put the Houston Texans defense on the back foot.

The 40-year-old quarterback saw this and threw a short bullet to the former Ohio State star who sped up enough on his breaking route to keep trailing corner Jalen Pitre behind. But even then, Pitre used a last-second leap to try and knock the ball away.
But Aaron Rodgers‘ throw was so accurate that it reached Wilson’s outstretched hand. Once he secured the ball, juked a defender and strolled into the end zone. That helped put the first points on the board for the Jets. Quite a rebound considering how his previous game went.
