It’s natural to believe since Davante Adams moved to New York, the spotlight will be on him. That’s partly true, but Garrett Wilson was under an even bigger microscope as he couldn’t afford to lose ground on the veteran.
After Adams’ move, ESPN reported that several teams contacted the Jets, asking for his services. For now, Joe Douglas managed to shake them off, but it posted a chip on Wilson’s shoulder, creating extra pressure.
It showed up time and time again on Sunday night at Acrisure Stadium when the Jets played against the Steelers in the presence of former USA President Donald Trump. The game went at a decent pace until an unbelievable mistake from Wilson turned the tide in the Steelers’ favor.
The Jets had possession. Eight minutes into the third quarter. Aaron Rodgers snapped the ball on second and ten and found Wilson wide open across the halfway mark. However, the ball bounced off Wilson’s palms, and Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. made an easy interception. Bishop carried the ball near the Jets’ five-yard mark before the defenders brought him down.
Feel like this Garrett Wilson drop completely derailed the game for New York.

It gave the home side the chance to score points. Russell Wilson stepped up and used a page out of the Eagles playbook by scoring through a tush-push for a one-yard touchdown.

Garrett Wilson takes responsibility for poor performance against Steelers
The Steelers eventually would go on to add a couple more. First Van Jefferson scored from four yards, and then Najee Harris increased it from ten with just thirty seconds left. The game finished 37-15, as the Jets suffered their fifth defeat of the season (fourth in a row).
Garrett Wilson finished with 5 receptions for 61 yards. After the game, the third-year receiver spoke with the media and shouldered all the blame.
"I don't take it light after that, I was the reason that we lost the game. S–t can't happen. It's a terrible play."

Garrett Wilson says his drop that led to an interception was a result of a "culmination of bad habits of not attacking the ball" pic.twitter.com/qZEnHTRkIs
It has been a struggle for Wilson this season even though he remains the Jets’ top receiver in terms of numbers. In seven games, he has caught 46 passes from 76 targets for 460 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Remarkably, this Sunday running back Breece Hall was the Jets leading receiver with 6 catches for 103 yards. Allen Lazard had 4 for 57, while Davante Adams in his first Jets game caught only 3 passes for 30 yards.
