It was a devastating finish for Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup as they crashed out of the group stages after losses against USA and India. Despite victories against Canada and Ireland, they failed to qualify as USA made the cut from Group A as the second team after their game with Ireland got washed out.

Following their elimination from the tournament, Pakistan’s coach, Gary Kirsten reportedly wasn’t happy at all with what he saw in the dressing room of the Men in Green. As reported by Pakistan’s Geo Super News, Kirsten called the players out individually following their clash against Ireland to highlight the lack of unity amongst them.

There's no unity in Pakistan's team. They call it a team, but it isn't a team. They aren't supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I've worked with many teams, but I've never seen such a situation.”
Gary Kirsten said, as cited by Geo Super News

This unfortunate development left the Pakistani reporters astonished as these remarks weren’t made on any press conferences or any internet portal.

However, the stated rift is palpable for everyone to see as Kirsten will be heading back home to South Africa while a handful of Pakistani players will be heading home from Miami. The report further stated that six Pakistani players including Babar Azam will be heading to UK for a holiday.

The report by Geo Super News also stated that Gary Kirsten was disappointed with the skills and fitness of the Pakistani players. He also pointed out that the shot selection of the batters were absolutely woeful.

In fact, an ultimatum was issued which very clearly stated that only the ones who are willing to improve, work on their fitness and skills are going to be a part of the national team in the coming days.

Pakistan’s journey at the 2024 T20 World Cup was one to forget after a resolute display in the 2022 edition of the tournament. They started on a wobble, back in Australia as well, but did well to recover. However, in USA, things went horribly south when they suffered a shock defeat at the hands of the hosts while losing out to India despite being in cruise control at one point in time.
