Gary Neville has said that Manchester United must look to strengthen their defence by bringing in Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane in the next summer transfer window. United have faced problems at the back and need an experienced and big name.

Manchester United defeated Spanish side Granada in the first leg of their UEFA Europa league quarterfinals on Thursday night.

Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane is currently unavailable for the club as he tested positive for covid 19 recently. Moreover he was unable to play the quarterfinals against Liverpool as well. The Los Blancos won 3-1 against Liverpool.

Manchester United are in the market for a centre forward and a centre-back, amid interest in Erling Haaland and Raphael Varane, but are mindful there are a number of eminent players out of contract next year, with Varane among them.

However Raphael Varane isn’t the only centre back being targeted by Manchester United. Jules Koundé and Pau Torres are prime centre-back targets for them as well. United are also looking at Raphaël Varane’s situation at Real Madrid in case he becomes available, as well as keeping an eye on Ibrahima Konaté.

Gary Neville has been conducting Q&A session on Twitter and was asked which are the three areas Manchester United need to improve further. Neville said that for any team looking to win silverware they must have good players at the top of the pitch.

Moreover when asked which rival player he would like to see at Manchester United he said ‘Varane’.
