Former India batter Gautam Gambhir revealed the reason why, after India won the ODI World Cup in 2011, he did not come to the ground to celebrate along with his teammate. He said that after batting for a long time, he was completely exhausted, which is why he crashed right after he went to his room.
“I don’t think that people realize that I was on the ground for literally 92 overs of the final. I was out there batting for 41-42 overs of our innings. The truth is, after I got out and went back to the changing room, I was exhausted. Drained completely,” Gambhir told RevSportz.
He added that though he was ecstatic at that moment, he was also exhausted which is why he went to be a part of the team during the celebration late in the night for just a few minutes and “crashed” due to extreme fatigue right after he went to his room. Gambhir further revealed that the next day when he went home, he got happy after seeing the faces of his family who felt immensely proud of India’s achievement.

Gautam Gambhir also talked about his mindset while batting in the final
Gambhir played a memorable knock as an opener and fell short of just three runs to hammer his century. But he claimed that while batting, he did not bother to think about what was going on at the other end.
The 41-year-old said his sole mission was to score runs on each delivery; and that he was completely focused on accomplishing the mission. He made a bold statement next, saying that if a player doesn’t think of winning the World Cup, then he shouldn’t be a part of the team.
India, led by MS Dhoni defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This was the second time the Men in Blue tasted victory in the ODI World Cup after their first win at the 1983 tournament. This year, Team India, led by Rohit Sharma is gearing up for the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be played in India in October-November.
