As MLB fans gear up for the 2024 World Series, Netflix has released a documentary on the Boston Red Sox’s epic ALCS comeback against the New York Yankees in 2004. It seems former NFL star Gehrig Dieter is not a fan of this and took a swipe at the documentary on social media.
The 31-year-old star is reported to be a die-hard Yankees fan. Given his ties with them, it comes as no surprise as to why he would not like this sports documentary. Taking to his X account, Dieter wrote that the OTT platform must be “struggling” and thus took another shot at the Red Sox.
This sports documentary recounts the events of the historic rivalry between the two teams and revisits the Red Sox’s epic win. Having lost the 2003 ALCS against the Yankees by four games to three, the 2004 meeting was a rematch between the two rivals.

While the Yankees enjoyed huge success, the Red Sox had suffered several heartbreaks. In this series, the Bronx Bombers would take a 3-0 series lead and looked all set for another trip to the Fall Classic. The Red Sox, though, had other ideas.
Led by “Big Papi” David Ortiz, the Boston-based outfit produced one of the greatest comebacks in sports history as they won four games on the bounce to knock out their arch-rivals. They are the only side in MLB history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a seven-game series. Following this, the Red Sox swept the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 in the Fall Classic and broke an 86-year drought for a World Series title.
Social media reacts to Boston Red Sox’s documentary
While Gehrig Dieter is not looking forward to the Boston Red Sox’s documentary, fans have had mixed reactions to this announcement. Though some of them are eager to catch a glimpse of it, some fans claim it is “too late” for this series to air as everyone already knows the story.
Some Red Sox fans on X also claimed that this series, along with a Yankees loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, would be great for them.
Check out some of that and a few more reactions regarding this below:
