Despite having a stellar season, there have been a lot of speculations and rumors surrounding Geno Smith’s position as the Seattle Seahawks’ starting QB. Many observed the quarterback was in a perilous spot with the franchise.
One source appeared quite reliable as Bleacher Report reporter John Franscella reported that Smith’s future with the Seahawks as the starting quarterback is a lot ‘shakier’ than fans speculate. He suggested the franchise’s preference towards Sam Howell over Smith.
Seattle Seahawks starting Quarterback Geno Smith is ‘on shakier ground than people realize. The Seahawks front office believes they ‘got a steal’ in the Sam Howell trade, and they are astonished at how productive he was despite a dysfunctional situation in Washington.
reported John Franscella on Thursday, according to a West Coast source.
However, it appears the rumors are in fact, rumors and nothing else. As the receiver himself addressed them as he noticed the tweet from the reporter. Not only did he dismiss those ongoing rumors, but also took a hit at media reporters for reporting misinformation.
U just made this BS up. Media is full of liars it’s so crazy!
Geno Smith wrote by sharing Frascella’s tweet
Though of course, the rumors aren’t baseless. Given, the Seahawks traded for the former Washington Commanders’ signal-caller, Howell despite his poor season. Although Smith solidified his position as the starting QB, Howell sure brings up the competition.
Geno Smith aside, Seahawks’ strategy for the upcoming season
After the departure of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, quarterback Smith had quite an eventful season. He made two consecutive All-Pro and observed a 17-15 record as he led the offense. This past season, he finished with over 3-000 yards and 20 touchdowns.
To remove some burden off the quarterback’s shoulder, the Seahawks added some offensive weapons on the roster this offseason. They drafted tackle Michael Jerrell and Sataoa Laumea in the 2024 NFL Draft, along with former All-American guard Christian Haynes.
Although the Seahawks weren’t hitting the headlines in the offseason, they did manage to strengthen their roster for next season.
