Despite being an outspoken guy, George Kittle prefers to stay away from the media during the regular season because he’s not a fan of Brock Purdy‘s slander. In his view, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback gets the hate because he doesn’t fit in the mold of a preconceived idea of a modern-day quarterback.
While chatting with Kay Adams before facing the New Orleans Saints in their second pre-season game, Kittle doubled down on the unwarranted hate on Brock Purdy. The Pro Bowl tight end highlighted the common theme in the majority of the criticism revolves around the third-year QB’s draft position.
It does get annoying sometimes because of all the things that go about Brock... Here's my thing... if he [Purdy] was a top-20 pick, first-round pick... he wouldn't be a punching bag to anybody.George Kittle told Adams on her show Up & Adams on Friday
However, Kittle produced a new take on the continuous barrage of criticism on the Iowa graduate even though he led the 49ers to two NFC title games, won one of them, and to a Super Bowl even after coming back from a bad shoulder injury.
It’s because he is a last pick of the drive and a shorter white guy from Iowa State; it's just like, aww!!! Nah dude, [his success] is because all the other guys on his team—that’s why he is just so good.George Kittle ranted

George Kittle pointed out the qualities Brock Purdy possesses that make him a great quarterback
The 30-year-old did not let up in his crusade to defend Brock Purdy. After calling out his teammate’s naysayers, he switched to highlighting why Purdy is the guy for the 49ers.
He is obviously better than what you guys are saying that he is. You look at the all stats to---down the field yard is one of the most in the NFL, his accuracy, QB rating, his touchdowns to interception [ratio]---he is like top 5 in everything. It’s obviously just the guys he is playing with, but he is also a very good quarterback.George Kittle said
Kittle has always been a Purdy believer, not just because they share the same Alma Mater, but because he has seen how good his quarterback is firsthand. According to the two-time all-pro, Purdy will have an even better 2024.
He just has this confidence, and he just has this, like, ‘This is my job.’ And it’s not something that—I want to say you’re always fighting for your job, but he’s like, ‘I’m making this job better. I’m getting better while I’m out here.George Kittle said
Purdy threw for a franchise record 4280 yards (9.6 yards per throw, which was best in the league) with a passer rating of 113.0 (best in the league) in 2023. He recorded a total of 33 touchdowns and 11 interceptions (a TD-to-INT percentage of 2.93).
After the 2024 season, Purdy will be eligible for a big salary increase. He is still one of the lowest earners in the NFL but could make up to $45 million annually.
