George Kittle is set to enter the ninth season of his NFL career, making him one of the longest-tenured tight ends in the league. Kittle will celebrate his 32nd birthday by the time the San Francisco 49ers play their week six game.

The 49ers recently extended Kittle’s contract to four more years. It will keep him in the Bay Area until 2028, barring serious injury.

Kittle will be 36 when the contract ends. However, he will walk away from football if his body can’t keep up with the pace of the game.

In a recent interview with Barstool Sports, Bussin With the Boys, Kittle revealed that if his wife told him to retire, he would listen to her by hanging up his boots even before the contract ended.

Literally until I don’t have fun anymore or until my wife, Claire, looks at me and goes, ‘You kinda look like s**t out there; you should retire.’ I don’t know, I think if I get to 35 and it hurts to put pants on in the morning, I think I’ll be like, ‘This isn’t too much fun anymore‘.

George Kittle said

Kittle became the highest-paid tight end after the recent extension. His yearly income is $19.1 million.

George Kittle hinted at his post-retirement gig

Football players start thinking about their future after their NFL career. Some stay in football by taking up coaching (Jim Harbaugh) or become scouts, while others opt for media (Ryan Clark). Kittle is different. Even though he will be in the twilight of his 30s during his retirement, the ex-Iowa Hawkeye wants to pursue a career in wrestling, specifically in WWE.

I would love to do WWE. I think there’s definitely opportunity within that world, and I would love nothing more than to be a part of it.

However, Kittle will not make the decision hastily. He won’t commit to another sport for fun because he doesn’t want to look like an idiot in the ring.

I’ve been in a WWE ring like three times. I don’t know what I’m doing out there. I have an understanding of how it works, but I haven’t moonsaulted off the top rope at WrestleMania like Pat McAfee did.

Kittle joked

He still has unfinished business before switching to the WWE. The 49ers need his leadership to guide the younger players to the next evolution of the team.

A performance similar to last year’s 1000-yard run will be more than sufficient for the NFC West franchise. According to ESPN’s Mina Kimes, Kittle was the best tight end in the league in 2024.

George Kittle, amongst all pass catchers last year, was FIRST in yards per target. Brock Bowers was the next tight end at 31st. So, between George Kittle and the next tight end, there were 30 receivers in yards per target… George Kittle is still so good.

Mina Kimes said on her show

For once, the Niners are not in an injury crisis. Aside from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, they have a full-strength squad with former OPOY running back Christian McCaffrey making a full recovery during the offseason.

The 49ers play three preseason friendlies against the Broncos, Raiders, and Chargers before facing divisional rivals the Seattle Seahawks in week one.
