George Pickens has been a revelation for the Dallas Cowboys since he arrived via trade in the offseason. His exploits have been the reason Brian Schottenheimer has enjoyed a successful start to his coaching career.

Despite early drops, the 24-year-old came around with some scintillating performances for his team. He managed to do that even amid increased attention from opponents, as his opposite number, CeeDee Lamb, was sidelined with injuries.

In their win against the Kansas City Chiefs, the blinding sun was not enough to disrupt his rhythm on Thanksgiving. Then came Week 14, and he struggled during their disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions.

After the game, Richard Sherman took the chance to criticize the Georgia wideout, blaming his lack of effort for the Cowboys’ loss. That criticism went viral and eventually found its way to George Pickens’ notifications.

He then took to his Instagram to post an expletive-laced rant at the former Super Bowl champion defensive back, effectively labeling Sherman as someone who benefited from playing with the vaunted Legion of Boom defense.

I’m aware of what was supposedly put out there. I’ve not talked to him yet. I understand it’s been taken down, but I will be talking to him, just checking on him. Again, this is unfortunately things that we deal with in this profession. But I have not spoken to him, but I will.

The head coach knows what that now-deleted post would do, as it will draw unnecessary negativity towards his team. After their loss, all he needs is for his team to focus and not butt heads with Hall of Famers.

Richard Sherman responds to George Pickens’ rant

Even though George Pickens deleted the post, presumably at the direction of Brian Schottenheimer and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys’ top brass, screenshots are still circulating on social media.

Lol, kid hasn’t done enough to merit a response from me. I was working on my 3rd consecutive 1st-team All-Pro and 2nd SB appearance at the same point in my career. Lol, I made an ALL-Pro team and SB in SF, but that’s the fall off for me.

The 37-year-old has a point when detailing how he made it to three 1st-team All-Pro selections and then two more 2nd-team selections, other than his Super Bowl ring and his single-season interceptions award.

Sherman evidently taunted Pickens for speaking up without even matching anything he did in his early years in the NFL. On top of that, the Seahawks’ legend did not reply to a screenshot of the Cowboys wideout’s post.

Instead, he replied only when a fan pointed it out on social media that Richard Sherman was also good enough to be an All-Pro during his later years with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ryan Clark joins in to criticize George Pickens

Regardless of what Richard Sherman said about George Pickens, the wideout’s performance in their loss to the Lions did become a topic of discussion on almost every sports show.

What George Pickens has to understand is that, this entire season, all he’s received is applause. He’s earned that. Now, the boos are going to be as loud as the applause… George Pickens let himself down more than anything last night.

Ryan Clark said on First Take

The former safety effectively echoed what Sherman said. Ryan Clark knows the wideout has done well for much of the season. However, his lack of effort in the Cowboys’ last game was evident.

The ESPN analyst then questioned if Pickens would be happy with his lack of effort, especially when he has been much better than that. Clark hopes the receiver accepts the criticisms as much as he willingly accepts the praise.
