Despite their victory over the New York Giants, the Pittsburgh Steelers were utterly disappointed on Monday after George Pickens’ impressive touchdown was overturned by the officials. Fans echoed the Steelers’ sentiments, voicing their frustration with NFL officiating following the controversial ruling.
The play occurred in the second quarter when quarterback Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass aimed at the star wide receiver. With an astounding athletic display, Pickens caught the nine-yard touchdown in the back of the end zone, and the officials on the field as well ruled it a touchdown.
Unfortunately, after the review, it was found that the star catcher did not get his both feet down, as Giants cornerback Deonte Banks pushed him out of bounds. This resulted in the touchdown decision being quickly overturned.
According to the NFL rulebook, “In the end zone if a player, who is inbounds [and]: b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands.”
Oof, NFL rulebook says "both feet" not "two feet." And I don't think it meant both of George Pickens' right feet. pic.twitter.com/nPnsGVTrLD

Although the star receiver’s left foot and backside almost touched the ground in bounds, only his right foot was in the field the moment he caught the catch. This minute detail cost the Steelers an acrobatic touchdown which would have made the opponents impossible to compete against.
Fans react to George Pickens’ TD getting overturned
This was Pickens’ second touchdown catch that was called back, as his first touchdown catch was negated because of a facemask penalty in the first quarter against Broderick Jones, which left Pittsburgh to settle for a field goal. The Steelers didn’t get a chance to challenge it and the booth review turned the play into an incompletion and that was it.
Reciprocating the sentiments of the visibly disappointed team, fans didn’t hold back from expressing their frustration with the officiating. One fan wrote, “The @NFL has become a total joke! It truly is the No Fun League,” while another wrote, “This has to be the first instance of this ever happening.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

So if you catch the ball at the 10 and hop on one foot in and through the end zone it's not at TD?

College has it right with 1 foot

That's a touchdown

An elbow would count but one foot twice doesn’t count as another foot. Makes sense.

this has to be the first instance of this ever happening

Being able to openly bet sure has changed sports.

I get the rule and there’s no room for common sense interpretation. But wonder if they’ll amend it slightly. I mean what if you catch the ball and hop on one foot for 10 yards… is that still not a catch??

Really? like really?

no points
After the touchdown was overturned, the Steelers once again had to settle for a field goal. Pickens completed the game with merely four receptions for 74 yards and zero touchdowns. The team is now sitting at a 6-2 record, heading for their next game against the Washington Commanders.
