Gerard Pique criticizes Barcelona Board

The Barcelona board are under significant pressure to resign or will be voted out by a Referendum. The board have done a number of questionable acts such as the financial crisis, bad transfers and don’t seem to have a sporting project in place. So Pique opted to speak out against the board, the situation on Messi and about Koeman.

Pique is not happy with the situation at Barca and spoke out in an interview with La Vanguardia saying, “We touched the sky with the treble of 2015. From there, the club has been falling instead of growing and that trend is not pleasant. We hit rock-bottom with the 8-2 defeat. We all had to do a ‘reset’ to see what was best for the club. We must understand that nobody is bigger than the club.”
He also spoke about the social media scandal at Barca and said, “The scandal with the social media accounts. As a Barça player I see that my club has spent money, money that they’re now asking us for, to criticize not only people outside of the club that have a historic relationship with the club, but active players. And that’s brutal. I asked for explanations and Bartomeu told me ‘Gerard, I didn’t know.’ And I believe that. But then you see that the person who you know made the decision to hire out those companies for those services still works for the club.
Nevertheless, Pique has opted to take a pay cut and extended his contract till 2024. He is also happy about the changes brought by Koeman and is looking to win trophies this season. Now, the hope is that the new upcoming Board after the election would work towards improving the sporting project at Barca. Though, most importantly convince Lionel Messi to stay at the club till the end of his career.
