Former German Champion Athlete Alexander Lubina Passes Away in Horrifying Cave Accident

Tragedy struck as former German athlete Alexander Lubina died in a tragic cave accident at age 42. The shocking news comes after the athlete was found in the Mallorca.
According to the mirror.co.uk, there was a storm which caused high waves that threw Lubina into the rocks in Cala Serena. The divers were later said to discover his body from the cave overnight on Thursday. Lubina was the winner of the 10,000m race at the 2002 German Championships. Just before his death he was known to have organised training sessions for local runners.
A policeman said that the Cala Serena was quite dangerous. “It is a dangerous place where, unfortunately, there have been several accidents and deaths.”

Lubina had his own running club, TV Wattenscheid 01, who have mourned the loss of their founder. “TV Wattenscheid 01 Leichtathletik eV is thinking of Alexander Lubina’s relatives and wishes the bereaved, especially in these difficult times,” they said in a recently released statement.
Lubina’s career will be remembered, with the highlight coming in 2002, where he qualified for the European Championships. He later went on to finish 13th at the 10000m event. He also ran the European cross country championship, where he finished 29th. He later narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
