The 2024 European Championship has finally kicked off! Hosts Germany took on Scotland at the Allianz Arena for the inaugural match of the tournament. As expected, Germany were at their very best in front of their fans with early pressure from the hosts forcing Scotland to back up into their own half. An emphatic display culminated in Germany kicking off their tournament with a 5-1 win against Scotland.

It only took Die Mannschaft ten minutes to get on the scoresheet as Florian Wirtz bagged the opener from a Joshua Kimmich assist. The game turned sour for the visitors quickly after Jamal Musiala doubled their lead through a powerful shot from close range. Things went from bad to worse when the match official called back play to give Scottish defender Ryan Porteous a red card for fouling Ilkay Gundogan in the penalty area.

Kai Havertz comfortably dispatched the penalty kick that followed. It took Niclas Fullkrug just 5 minutes after being subbed on to get on the scoresheet. The striker claimed Germany’s fourth of the night with a thunderous half-volley inside the penalty area.

Germany failed to keep a clean sheet when Antonio Rudiger accidentally headed the ball into his own net. Emre Can, who came on to replace Toni Kroos In the 80th minute, scored an impressive curled shot from outside the area to finish the game.
