Netherlands took on the Germany at Allianz Arena on Monday night as the international break nears its end. Germany are cruising with three wins in their last four games while the Netherlands are struggling for form. Julian Nagelsmann‘s side have debutant Jamie Leweling to thank for the three points as the VfB Stuttgart star scored his first international goal.

Germany maintained their unbeaten record against the Netherlands with a 1-0 win, although they were in control for the majority of the game. A brilliant finish from Leweling in the opening minutes was chalked off by the referee after a player was spotted in an offside position during the build-up.

However, Leweling rewrote his story on the night as he unleashed a screamer in the 64th minute. His right-footed shot found the top right corner as the German defenders stood rooted to the spot.

Nagelsmann also expressed his surprise at how well debutant Jamie Leweling performed. For a player to be called up only due to another’s injury and for him to be included in the starting line-up to go on and win the game was truly inspiring. Leweling has one goal and two assists to his name in the Champions League and Bundesliga combined. Stuttgart are currently 8th in the Bundesliga with nine points in six games.
