The journey of the New York Yankees in the 2024 postseason came to an end on Wednesday night following a brutal loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gerrit Cole would later get emotional in the press conference and claimed it was the “worst feeling” anyone can have.
After an impressive performance in Game 1, Cole took to the mound in Game 5 intending to force a Game 6. At first, it seemed his plans were working as he once again dominated from the mound.
However, the huge meltdown in the fifth inning turned out to be the turning point in the game. After a fielding error by Aaron Judge, Cole also made a mistake.
He would exit the game after throwing 108 pitches in 6.2 innings and receive a standing ovation from the crowd. The bullpen, though, were unable to back his effort and ended up conceding three runs.

Gerrit Cole admits taking a ‘bad angle’ during brutal mistake in the fifth inning
The fifth inning of Game 5 between the Dodgers and the Yankees will live forever in the memory of the fans. This inning saw the match turn on its head as the Yankees imploded with their fielding. Cole would later admit to taking a “bad angle” during his mistake.
With two outs and bases loaded, he came up against Mookie Betts. The Dodgers’ star would hit a routine groundball toward first base. While Anthony Rizzo collected the ball, both he and Cole failed to cover the first base in time.
This saw Betts open the scoring for the Dodgers. They would put up four more runs in that inning to tie up the game.
Oh wow…
