The lightweight professional boxing category is one of the most exciting divisions in the world, largely due to the high caliber of champions it features. Currently, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis holds the WBA lightweight title. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Shakur Stevenson is the reigning champion of the WBC lightweight title.

Recently, Gervonta Davis has spoken about the possibility of retiring from boxing by the end of 2025. This news has stirred discussion within the boxing community and prompted various reactions. In a recent exclusive interview with Fight Hub TV, Shakur Stevenson shared his thoughts on the situation. The WBC lightweight champion even suggested that Davis’ potential retirement could be viewed as a weak move.

If he wants to retire with the career that he got. Go ahead and do what you gotta do. I disagree with it, I think that’s soft, but that’s on him… If he’s willing to fight, I’m ready to fight, and I think it should happen.

Stevenson has previously acknowledged the significance of their matchup and the excitement it could generate within the boxing community.

As of now, the 27-year-old undefeated boxer remains committed to that statement and has expressed his desire to fight Davis. However, ‘Tank’ is currently scheduled to face the WBA super featherweight champion, Lamont Roach.

The fight is set to take place on March 1, 2025, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, where Davis has previously defeated several formidable opponents. In light of Tank’s retirement news, another top boxer has also shared their reaction.

Devin Haney accuses Gervonta Davis of ‘bluffing’ over retirement talks

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has been a part of the professional boxing scene for over a decade. During his long career as a pro boxer, the WBA lightweight champion has engaged in several intriguing rivalries. Among these rivalries is one with fellow undefeated American boxer Devin Haney. Recently, Davis’ team made light of Haney’s absence from the boxing community for several months. However, ‘The Dream’ made a comeback by attending a public workout in London, where he spoke about the recent news regarding his rival’s retirement. While Davis shared his reasons for choosing to retire, Haney is not convinced by those explanations.

He not retiring. There’s still a lot of big fights that can be made out there. Tank knows that. I don’t think he’s going to retire with a lot of unfinished business.

Haney emphasized that there are still many exciting matchups available for Davis. Recently, Tank expressed his desire for a rematch against Ryan Garcia. Additionally, Haney suggested that Davis might be bluffing, as he knows how to generate interest within the boxing community. Now, it remains to be seen whether Davis will pursue another fight after the Lamont Roach match.
