Josh Giddey is one of the many international athletes playing in the NBA. One of the reasons international players come to America is to both compete in the most competitive league in the world and also earn the most a basketball player can in their lifetime.
Giddey was drafted 6th overall back in 2021, which means he was awarded a starting 4-year rookie contract worth $27.2 million. He would never earn such a figure back in Australia or even in the higher paying European or Asian basketball leagues.
Some athletes earn a lot more than him, and still do not know how to handle their paychecks. Josh Giddey was on a live session on Snapchat where he welcomed questions from fans. One of the questions was how NBA paychecks work.
You can choose to be paid ur yearly salary in 6 months or 12 months. Most guys chose 12 months so that they are being paid all year around. Get paid every 2 weeks.
Josh Giddey replied
That means most NBA players choose to be paid every month or even every two weeks. That way, they keep seeing an inflow of money and try to manage their expenses around that. It is a way to combat overspending, but many players still cannot manage their finances.

Giddey is in line to earn a 5-year, $150 million contract when free agency officially opens later in the year. The 22-year-old might not have much wriggle room considering he is a restricted free agent, but even then, that amount is possible as the Chicago Bulls look to build a team around him.
Josh Giddey is the future of the Chicago Bulls
Ahead of this past regular season, the Chicago Bulls had a playoff-contending roster. But the front office understood their limits and decided to rebuild through the trade market. That is how Josh Giddey landed in their building.

Despite losing DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Alex Caruso, the Bulls still managed to reach the play in tournament. This should give the team a good base to build on. The Aussie, along with Coby White, Ayo Dosunmo, Tre Jones, and Matas Buzelis, make up the young core which the Bulls can build on.
If Lonzo Ball comes back healthy, then the team will have another option at guard. However, the team does need a more athletic big man to pair with this young core. If they can find a player via trade or in the Draft at No. 12, it could springboard their attempts to attack the Eastern Conference down the line.
However, the Chicago Bulls try to bring pieces to improve the roster, their focus starts with Josh Giddey. His playmaking, rebounding and scoring are what will help them enter a new era. Expect them to lock in the Australian with that contract soon.
Josh Giddey rooting for his former team in NBA playoffs
Josh Giddey was one of the young players who were part of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s core. But soon it became apparent that his playing style would not fit with the team. That led them to trade him and bring in Alex Caruso.
Caruso has been a tremendous fit for them as his experience and defense have helped the Thunder stave off competition. Usually, a player would be jealous of his former team if they are fighting for a championship. But Giddey is instead rooting for them.

He confirmed on that Snapchat session that he wants his former team to win the NBA title. Had he been in the playoffs with the Chicago Bulls, he might have stuck with his current employer. But since their season ended early, he wants his former teammates to win it all.
