Giancarlo Stanton provided another grim update regarding his health. Ahead of his 2026 Spring Training debut next week, the 5-time MLB All-Star revealed that he is still dealing with the tennis elbow (epicondylitis) injury and is having difficulties performing simple daily tasks.

The American international had this problem last year as well. He would admit having a very high level of pain in both of his elbows. He was put on the 60-day injured list and missed Opening Day.

Stanton would make his 2025 season debut on June 16. He went on to take part in 77 games and batted with a .273/.350/.594 slash line while hitting 24 home runs and having 66 RBIs.

The outfielder/designated hitter is still having trouble with this injury. According to reports from Randy Miller of NJ.com, the Yankees’ star cannot even open a bag of chips or a bottle. Despite this, he wants to have a full season.

I can’t open a bottle. I can’t open a bag of chips … a bag of anything. That’s the way it is.

Since 2019, Stanton has appeared in just 56.4 per cent (582 of 1,032) of the Yankees’ regular-season games. He had the option to undergo surgery, which would have given him a couple of months to recover from it. However, he decide not to get it done.

You get the surgery and you can go back to being in the general population in a few months, but my job is to put some of the most force into a batted ball. That’s not going to be fixed in surgery.

The Yankees’ current plan is to give him his first Spring Training start against Team Panama before the World Baseball Classic (WBC). The team will then have around two weeks of training to make him ready for the Opening Day against the San Francisco Giants.

Stanton, who joined the team after his MVP season in 2017, has two guaranteed years remaining on his contract, along with a team option for the 2028 season. The 36-year-old will be hoping to end his career on a positive note instead of calling it a day due to health reasons.

While speaking with Randy Miller, the Yankees manager expressed that they did give him breaks last year and mentioned how he was playing through the pain barrier.

No doubt, no doubt. We did that last year. There were days he was playing where it was tough for him, but he wanted in there. There are other days he wanted to be in there and I’d say, ‘We have to stay disciplined to this because you’re so critical to us.’

Aaron Boone said regarding Giancarlo Stanton

Speaking of last season, the Yankees finished the regular season with a 94-68 record despite having some slips in the middle of the campaign. They, however, missed out on the division title due to the Toronto Blue Jays holding the tiebreaker over them.

After overcoming the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series, the Bronx Bombers were blown away in the American League Division Series (ALDS) by the Blue Jays. They lost the best-of-five series 4-1 while being outscored 34-19 in 4 games.
