“Kind of shut down,” Giancarlo Stanton UNSURE about Opening Day start due to recurring elbow injury
Aaron Boone talks about Giancarlo Stanton’s importance as the hitter suffers from a recurring elbow injury since last season.

Spring Training has just started and the New York Yankees are already dealing with player’s health issues. Manager Aaron Boone recently updated that power hitter Giancarlo Stanton will have a slow start to the camp as he’s dealing with an elbow injury.
The injury itself is a recurring issue the outfielder has been dealing with since last season. It marked a slow performance and low record streak for the Yankees but was soon forgotten due to his power performance in the October games.
He won the MVP award after carrying the team to the World Series following the ALCS game against the Cleveland Guardians. He hit four homers to finish it in just five games earning him the respect and love from the teammates and the fans.
However, underneath it all, he’s been dealing with elbow issues which Aaron Boone referred to be tennis elbow most likely. Currently, it’s uncertain whether Stanton will be available to play on the Opening Day due to elbow soreness. Boone said “he kind of shut down” but with treatments he persisted last season.
I don’t know; we’ll see. It’s tough to say. I’m not going to put any timeline on it. We’re just going to be smart with it…It’s just something we don’t want to rush…We don’t want to force anything too early.

Giancarlo Stanton will be slow-played during Spring Training because of discomfort in both elbows, which Aaron Boone likened to tennis elbow. Boone said it is an issue Stanton was dealing with last season, including the playoffs.

The New York Yankees are scheduled to hold their full squad training on Monday but for Giancarlo Stanton, it’ll be a slow-play. Boone believes his elbow issue will be something they’ll need to deal with throughout the 2025 season with some “good maintenance” in process.
Giancarlo Stanton key piece for Yankees after Juan Soto loss
Many are worried about Giancarlo Stanton’s injury issue as he was believed to be one of the key pieces for the team after they lost Juan Soto to the New York Mets. Last season, Soto was part of the key players to helped the Yankees to the World Series.

However, once the offseason hit Soto signed a mega-deal with Yankees rival Mets on a $765 million deal for 15 years. The team was trying to depend on Stanton’s power but now that remains in question.
Meanwhile, the team will try out different pairs in the Spring Training with Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger being the power additions of the offseason. Long-term health has been an issue for Stanton who has not played a season with a visit to the injured list since 2018.

Apart from Stanton, the team is also dealing with Trent Grisham’s hamstring strain. It is reported that Grisham will be “a little bit behind” the other players as they resume Spring Training camp on Monday.
