As Giancarlo Stanton prepares to enter his 16th year in the MLB, the major goal in his sights is to win the World Series with the New York Yankees. While speaking with the reporters from the Spring Training camp, the 5-time All-Star claimed that his Yankees career will have a “stain” if he does not win the championship with them.
The American international made his debut in the league with the Florida Marlins in 2010 after being selected in the 2007 MLB draft. After 7 seasons with the Marlins, he joined the Yankees in 2018.
When he signed with the Bronx Bombers, he was coming off from an National League MVP season. In 2017, he slugged 59 home runs, becoming the first player after Prince Fielder in 2007 to hit 50 or home runs in the National League.
That same year, a rookie Aaron Judge hit 52 home runs for the Yankees. With the team acquiring Stanton, it was expected that the two of them would form a powerful bond and lead the team back to glory.
While the two of them have formed a strong bond and are the team’s top performers, they have failed to win the World Series. After 2 American League Championship Series (ALCS) losses against the Houston Astros in 2019 and 2022, the Yankees finally made it past this stage in 2024.
After beating the Cleveland Guardians, the Yankees took on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic. The NL side ended up dominating the Yankees and won the series 4-1, leaving Stanton and Judge heartbroken.
Ahead of his 9th season with the Yankees, Stanton expressed that his story is still being written and it would be incomplete without a championship ring. He also claimed that the whole point of being a Yankee was being a champion.
The story is still being written. But the point of being a Yankee is being a champion. There’s always going to be a stain there without that.

In 2024, when the Yankees did make a deep postseason run, Stanton was one of their top performers. As Judge struggled to make a huge impact, Stanton, alongside Juan Soto, led the Yankees’ attack. With 4 home runs in the ALCS, Stanton was named the MVP of the series.

He finished the postseason with 7 home runs and 16 RBIs while batting with a .273 average. In the last postseason, his form dipped too, and he did not manage a single home run as his side suffered an American League Division Series (ALDS) exit.
The loss meant that the Yankees’ World Series drought reached up to 16 years. The New York-based side, who are the most successful franchise in MLB with 27 titles, has not won a ring since 2009. This is their second-longest World Series title drought in their history.
Giancarlo Stanton comments on Yankees’ slow offseason
The New York Yankees had a slow offseason this time around. Instead of heavily pursuing some big names, the team focused on re-signing some of their players and bringing them back. On Tuesday, Giancarlo Stanton commented on this.

The way the team handled business this offseason had caused an uproar among fans. Many criticized team owner Hal Steinbrenner and General Manager Brian Cashman for the lack of big moves.
On Monday, team captain Aaron Judge spoke out regarding this. He would not mince his words and claimed that it was “brutal” to watch the other team make huge signings.
It was brutal… I’m seeing other teams around the league get better. They’re making trades, they’re signing big prospects or big players and we kind of were sitting there for a while, kind of making smaller moves.
Aaron Judge told the reporters
Aaron Judge was asked what the offseason was like for him waiting to see what the Yankees' front office was going to do and waiting to see if Cody Bellinger would come back:

Fans would later rally behind Judge. They would once again voice their displeasure with the team’s front office on social media.
On Tuesday, a reporter would ask Stanton whether he was feeling the same way as Judge about the moves made by the team. The 36-year-old claimed he was not “frustrated” but was “interested” and “curious” with the way things had gone.
I was definitely checking to see if anything was going on. Interested. Frustrating? I wouldn’t say frustrating, you have all until through spring to make moves so just interested, curious.

After re-signing Trent Grisham through the qualifying offer, the team spent the majority of its time trying to bring back Cody Bellinger. Following weeks of negotiations, the former NL MVP re-signed with the team on a 5-year, $162.5 million deal.
Apart from them, the team have also re-signed Paul Goldschmidt, Tim Hill, Ryan Yarbrough, Paul Blackburn and Amed Rosario.
Giancarlo Stanton speaks out regarding MLBPA executive director Tony Clark’s resignation amid major scandal
On Tuesday, the MLB world was left shocked following the sudden resignation of MLB Players Association (MLBPA) executive director Tony Clark amid the breakout of a major scandal. Giancarlo Stanton was one of those who commented on the matter.

According to reports from Jeff Passan and Don Van Natta Jr., an internal investigation revealed that Clark had an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, whom he had hired as a union employee in 2023. Following this, he would step down from the post.

A reporter would bring this up and ask Stanton about his reaction. The Yankees star simply claimed he did not have much information regarding this but acknowledged the “timing” of it.
I don’t have much on it as I don’t have any info on who, what, when, where and why. Not ideal timing is all I know.

Clark’s resignation comes less than 10 months before the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) comes to an end in December. As the executive director, he was expected to play a major role. Bruce Meyer, the deputy director, is now expected to take on the role of an interim director.
