Giannis Antetokounmpo is about to start his 13th season with the Milwaukee Bucks. He wants to win a championship, and has given enough hints in the offseason about potentially moving to another franchise.
Trade rumors soon became a daily topic of conversation as many teams were deemed to have shared their interest in trading for the two-time league MVP. Among those rumors, New York was touted as a possible location. The Brooklyn Nets, flush with enough draft assets to tempt the Bucks, were seen as potential suitors, as he was keen on moving to the Big Apple.
He was seen walking around the city with his family in tow, fueling speculation that he was interested in moving away from the franchise with which he won an NBA championship. Then there was the New York Knicks, whose superfan, Stephen A. Smith, was livid with the franchise for not having enough draft assets to trade for the ‘Greek Freak’.
He felt that the front office undermined their chances of becoming legitimate championship contenders when they sent five 1st round picks to the Nets for Mikal Bridges. Now, it seems there were conversations between the Knicks and the Bucks.
Sources told me that the New York Knicks emerged as the team in August that Giannis Antetokounmpo wanted to play for, if he were to be traded outside of Milwaukee, if these 2 sides could reach agreement on a deal.
Shams Charania revealed on NBA Today
ESPN’s lead insider revealed that the Knicks and the Bucks had several discussions. However, two revelations were made. On one hand, the Bucks did not find the Knicks’ offer strong enough to make a trade, and the latter believed the former was not serious about letting their superstar walk.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has concerns about Bucks’ championship aspirations
There is no doubt that the New York Knicks do not have the trade assets to tempt the Milwaukee Bucks. But it is also true that the latter still believes they can win a championship with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
John Horst told Giannis Antetokounmpo in their face-to-face meeting in late July, that, ‘We can still win here with you.’ But clearly, he aired his level of concern with the roster.
Shams Charania said
Hearing this, host of NBA Today, Malika Andrews, mentioned that the 2021 Finals MVP did mention to reporters that he is happy with the youth of the current Bucks roster.
Then Charania mentioned that trade rumors for the father of four will not shut down as he and his agent are going to monitor the Bucks’ first 20 games. Then, when they assess the situation around the league, they will look at possible options to move.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s family moves to Athens
If Giannis Antetokounmpo is indeed looking for a change, his family will likely buy into the idea. That explains why he and his family were out in Brooklyn and New York. However, it seems they have decided ‘home’ is where they should be.

Antetokounmpo’s wife and children have already moved into a brand new futuristic-looking and custom-build apartment complex in Athens’ “diplomatic row” neighborhood, Paleo Psychiko.
Tovima revealed
The Greek publication also added that the Bucks superstar’s family is not alone, and has company in the form of the other Antetokounmpo brothers, as well as their widowed mother.
According to @tovimacom, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s wife, Mariah, and their four young children have reportedly moved permanently to Athens

The publication also revealed that this was wife Mariah Riddlesprigger‘s decision. She chose Athens when given the option to stay in Milwaukee or head back to their adopted nation. Their oldest two children have also started kindergarten. This could remove the 30-year-old’s dependency, which means he can move teams to win championships.
