The first few games of the men’s basketball events at the Paris Olympics 2024 have concluded. Hosts France and seven other nations played the first set of group games. The Olympics is supposed to bring together everyone in the spirit of competition. Maybe that competition became a bit too much for NBA superstars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

A timeout was called with what looks like Canada having one or a string of plays that helped them gain the advantage. But as the whistle blew and the teams were about to go to their bench, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander walked towards Greece’s Giannoulis Larentzakis. He was seen shouting at Larentzakis with what looks like these words repeatedly;

What's up b*tch!

As SGA approached, the Greek star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, stood right there. He shoved Gilgeous-Alexander away with his arm. As he thought it could have been an unwanted confrontation. FIBA rules allow a bit more leeway than the NBA does. Such confrontations do not get punished. However, if it leads to a brawl, then referees can stop and take necessary action. Any ejections could be detrimental to their goals at these Olympics.

Which is why Antetokounmpo tried to stop that confrontation from building fire. It was good that Giannoulis Larentzakis did not retaliate even to those words the NBA MVP finalist had coming out of his mouth. They all know they still have games to play, and any ejections could scupper their chances.

Canada announced their intentions with a win over Giannis Antetokounmpo

The world of basketball already took note of Canada Basketball‘s growth over the past few years. Last year’s third-place finish at the FIBA World Cup was the highlight. But this group, which consists of several NBA stars, wants to do at least one better in the Paris Olympics 2024.

To achieve that, they have to win their group, where the likes of Antetokounmpo led Greece, Spain, and Australia also have the same goal. Knowing the competition would not be easy, they took this game by the scruff of the neck and won over Greece by seven points.

In two days’ time, they face Australia. The Australian team beat Spain by double digits just a while before Canada took to the floor. If tonight’s competitive nature can be carried through to that game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his national teammates can be one step closer to their goal.
