Things are going from bad to worse for Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks this season. After a disappointing loss to the Denver Nuggets without Nikola Jokic on Sunday, the Bucks were blown away 139-106 by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who played without their star player, Anthony Edwards, at the Fiserv Forum on Tuesday night. The Bucks were down by as much as 31 points at halftime, tying their biggest halftime deficit of the season.
It was the Bucks’ tenth loss in 19 games at home this season. Another loss is a big hit to their chances for playoff qualification as they currently find themselves in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 17-23 record, 1.5 games behind 10th-place Chicago Bulls. Whereas, the Wolves continue to show their impressive form since Thanksgiving Day and improved their record to 27-14 and sit at fourth place in the highly competitive Western Conference standings.
There has been a lot of drama surrounding their star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, throughout the season. After trading away Damian Lillard, Antetokounmpo was not pleased with the Bucks’ front office and felt that the management did not build a roster around him to contend for a championship this season.
There were several reports that the ‘Greek Freak’ requested for a trade in the offseason but nothing materialized. However, after a poor start to the season, rumors about Antetokounmpo wanting out started to resurface. Pundits were critical of Antetokounmpo for not being open about what he wanted.
Considering their Tuesday match was at home, the fans were left largely dissatisfied and made their feelings known. They booed the coaches and players who made their way out of the tunnel towards the locker room at halftime. When the Bucks were down 117-83 in the fourth quarter, Antetokounmpo looked visibly distraught on the bench.

Despite the Bucks’ struggles this season, Antetokounmpo has continued to put up impressive performances and MVP numbers. The Bucks forward is currently averaging 29.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists on 64.9% shooting in 26 appearances this season.

Many fans believe that it is only a matter of time before Antetokounmpo leaves the Bucks with some Lakers and Warriors fans hoping to acquire the former NBA Champion and Finals MVP.

Despite the horrid show for the Bucks, Antetokounmpo scored a team-high 25 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists, shooting at 9-13 from the field, but had committed seven turnovers. During the second half, when things were tense, Antetokounmpo responded to the boos and showed the thumbs down to the home fans, as he has done all season when booed away from home.

After the loss, Antetokounmpo reacted to being booed by his home fans for the first time in his career.
I’ve never been a part (of it). Kinda new for me. It doesn’t change. It’s the same thing. I thrive through adversity. I thrive when people don’t believe in me. Doesn’t matter if I’m on the road, if I’m at home, if I’m at my family dinner, if I’m at the practice facility with my teammates. It doesn’t really matter. So, yeah, I’ve never been a part of something like that before, so it was something new for me. I like it though. I love it.

Antetokounmpo’s frustrations during the game were understandable. It is never a pleasant sight to be booed, especially by home fans. But from his statements after the game, it looks like the Greek star is viewing it positively and will use this unfortunate event to fuel himself for the rest of the campaign.
